I have a dell running xp media edition. Somehow a strange virus hooked on here. I start the computer and it boots to the desktop fine. After about 8 seconds the desktop goes away and 8 seconds later it is back again. It does this over and over. I tried safe mode and same thing. I do not have time to click anything but I did manage to run MSCONFIG and uncheck everything. I had to type fast. I restarted and same thing. You have to work fast as any delay you will miss opening anything as it will disappear and then come back again. I cannot use PC Restore, I hit the CTRL and F11 key when it boots and nothing happens , I assume the MBR is corrupted. I can boot with a xp home disk and I see the hidden partition under the C drive. That is where Dell puts this operating system. I ran the fix that I was told in a Dell forum to try and repair, I dowload the file and run the DSRFIX but I get message that the MBR does not match this Dell. I do not have the original operating system. I can order it from dell but I have to pay for it which I think is not right. I paid enough for this computer in 06 and was never offered the xp disk. I bad need to have the current operating system back running. Anyone know how I could get back to the desktop and make it stay there where I can try and clean this system up. Thanks. trig
