I have a couple of annoying problems with my PC; firstly ,as it has just happened, I was on Google earth (a known heavy memory user I know) but as time went on , I realised it was getting "jerky" and slow. On checking task manager the CPU use was low for a change but the memory was nearly 2Gb. This has happened before a couple of times , even now I'm off G.E. but still 1.95 on the page file usage graph. I ran a HJT scan but means nothing to me.
A more frequent (and more annoying still) problem is when I double click Google icon on my desktop, nothing at all happens for several minutes; in the meantime if I put T.Manager on, then minimize it, a "snapshot of it remains, if I then return it to desktop and move it around, it wipes all the icons off like a blackboard rubber.Eventually it kicks in and everything is fine.
Can I post a copy of the HJT scan in the hope someone can shed light on this please? Many thanks, Stellabelch.

Hi,

There's still malware present + some leftovers, so to deal with it, do next please:

* Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Extra note - I see you have the Zonealarm Firewall installed and running. Keep in mind that this one *may also cause the problems you are dealing with now.

Hi,

This looks OK again.

Just some leftovers, so check and fix next entries in HijackThis:

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - ?p=ZKxdm021YYGB
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: thtxii.dll,jcmdgg.dll

Then, Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • For Platform, select "Windows"
  • For language, select your language
  • Read the License agreement and then Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
  • Click Continue
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • Java™ 6 Update 5
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Then, * Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

If you're still having the same memory issue, please temporary uninstall Zonealarm and see if that solves your problem.

Glad I could help. :thumbup2:

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Hi again, went on Google earth and the same happened. The movement becomes jerky and when I check taskmaster, the page file usage graph is 2 GB plus, yet on the processes tab it does not seem massively high.Even when I get off G.E, the page file graph is still around 1.8Gb. (It only reduces if I restart)
Also it seems to be getting harder to get internet, no error messages are displayed but just the swirly circle continuosly in the top left of the tab, and even accessing my documents etc on my partitioned hard drive eg my music or pictures, there is quite a delay wiyh no hourglass appearing, but with taskmaster on a lot I notice the CPU graph spiking to 100% every 3 seconds or so until the folders appear. Incidentally when the internet freezes, on tmaster applications list there are always two entries of Windows Internet Explorer (not responding); is this normal? Sorry to bother y'all again.

Hi,

Or you got reinfected again - or one of the browser addons is causing the problem.
To make sure you didn't get infected, redownload combofix again, run it and post the log in your next reply.

Edited to add:

went on Google earth and the same happened.

This isn't that uncommon though. Google earth may indeed cause freezes, and especially since I see you have Zonealarm installed.
I already mentioned zonealarm previously as a potential cause of your slowdown issues and freezes, so not sure if you have uninstalled it temporary to troubleshoot. The fact that you're having the same problems again as before (after malware removal) really makes me think it is your Zonealarm though...
