Hi,
We have five terminals in our parts department, all running Windows XP-PRO. We had an Epson cx6600 printer on one of the stations and set to share with the others. We switched the printer to another terminal and set it up the same way but it will only work from the terminal it is slaved to. We have shared it and added it to the other terminals. We have even gone back to the original set up with the printer attached to the original station and it will now work only with that station!!! We are able to use all of the other shared printers in our network with no problems. We have uninstalled and reinstalled twice but have had no luck. We are going "nuts" trying to figure this out. Any ideas? Thanks.

When you added it to the other terminals did you also remove the original instance of it?
That is to say on one of the non-printer connected terminals you had the network printer "Epson on T1" installed. Now you have added "Epson on T2". If you did not remove "Epson on T1" then your applications may still be defaulting to that (absent) printer.

What apps are you printing from and what error messages do you get when you try to print? If you find the printer on one of the non-printer connected terminals and right click on it to select properties there is a 'print a test page' button. What happens when you try that?

I attempted to remove all of the software related to Epson but I noticed that there was still a listing showing in the windows populated list under add/remove software. Nothing I did would remove this listing. The software was gone from the programs menu. I also noticed that the listing that remained had no date or file size associated with it. I deleted all of the versions created on the other work stations through "add a printer". After reinstalling the software, we still have the same problem. We are attempting to print from Microsoft Office applications but we are only able to do so from the workstation that the printer is slaved to. We get no error messages and the jobs in process windo says the job is printing but it is not. We get the same response if we attempt to print a test page from the other work stations also. Thanks

If you go into the printer properties where the printer is can you capture the port on another machine?

not sure what you are refering to. The printer is running on a USB cable and shows to be on a virtual port.

Have you installed the SP2 critical update fo XP Pro which has significantly better and easier networking capabilities and far superior security function?

I'm still not sure I'm clear on this:
You moved the Epson to a different terminal - call it T2
You connected via USB, installed the printer software on T2 and shared the printer. (T2 has file and printer sharing enabled in Network properties).

Does the printer print a test page at this point?

You go to a terminal without a printer - call it T3 and use the 'Add Printer' wizard.
You install a network printer and choose from the devices shown.

Is the printer on T2 shown?

You select the Epson on T2 and the Wizard loads the drivers for it.
Now you have 'Epson on T2' listed in the printers window of T3.
Right click on this entry and set it as the default printer.
You open a Word document, select Print from the File menu and in the pull down menu choose 'Epson on T2' as your printer (if it's not already there) and press Ok.
The print dialog closes, there a no error messages.

Nothing prints.

Are the above steps accurate? What is shown in the spooler for 'Epson on T2' - double click it in the printers window and it shows you a list of print jobs waiting.
