Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I've been having trouble with my browser always being redirected to Adyieldmanager.com, especially from my Yahoo.com start page. I've downloaded all recent updates to AVG virus scan, AdAware, SpyBot, CWShredder, CCleaner, and have run them all in safe mode this morning. They can't find any problem though!! I'm running Windows XP with service pack 3. I'd really appreciate any help getting rid of this malware. My DDS.txt file is below and attach.txt is attached.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi jfrase2,

Welcome to BC HijackThis forum and sorry for the delay. I am farbar. I am going to assist you with your problem.

Please refrain from making any changes to your system (updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might prolong handling your log and make the job for both of us more difficult.

Click here to download HijackThis Installer.
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTInstall.exe icon to start the installation.
  • When a window pops up asking you the directory to install the program please accept the proposed default directory.
The program will automatically place a shortcut on your desktop and if further use of the program is required, you can click on the shortcut to run the program.

Please run Hijackthis. Click Do a system scan and save a logfile then copy and paste the content of the log to your reply and Tell me about the current condition of your computer.[/list]

Hi,

Thanks for helping me! Here is my HijackThis file (see below).
I still get strange problems trying to navigate the internet. I sometimes get redirected to a webpage that says something about adyieldmanager being unable to find the page. Since my last post, there was a day when I couldn't get on to any page at all using Google. It said "Warning -- this site may contain content that can harm your computer!" or something like that. I got this error for every page I searched for with Google, including Google itself. The problem resolved after I rebooted my computer. Anyway, just strange stuff has been happening when I use Internet Explorer.

Hope you can help... Thanks again,
Alex

Hi again,
  • You have the program Spybot S&D (Teatimer option) running on your machine. We need to disable TeaTimer so it does not interfere with the fixes we are about to do. This will only take a few seconds.
    • First disable TeaTimer:
      • Run Spybot-S&D
      • Go to the Mode menu, and make sure Advanced Mode is selected
      • On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
      • Uncheck Resident TeaTimer and OK any prompts
      • Restart your computer.
Instruction is also here: How to disable TeaTimer during HijackThis Cleanup

Note:If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.

    • Then download ResetTeaTimer.exe to your desktop. (In case you use Firefox, rightclick the link and choose "Save Link As").
      • Doubleclick ResetTeaTimer.exe and let it run.
Note: The Teatimer should be kept disabled until I give you the clean sign.

  • Please open HiJackThis and choose do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below (if present):

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: Browser Address Error Redirector - {CA6319C0-31B7-401E-A518-A07C3DB8F777} - C:\Program Files\BAE\BAE.dll
    O16 - DPF: {CF40ACC5-E1BB-4AFF-AC72-04C2F616BCA7} -

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

    • Select your Platform: "Windows".
    • Select your Language: "Multi-language".
    • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
    • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
    • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove this older versions of Java: 2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Hi,

Thanks for your help so far. No, the problem is not resolved yet.
I followed all your steps. The Java version was 12, not 11, so I downloaded and installed that version instead.
After following all you steps, I am still having trouble with Adyieldmanager. It seems to be a problem whenever I am on Yahoo.com and trying to go back and forth between links. It takes 2-4 clicks of the "Back" button to go back one webpage. After clicking the "Back" button, the status bar at the bottom says "Waiting for www.adyieldmanger.com/st?...<some other stuff>" the first time. The second time, it says the same thing, followed by "Connecting to site 127.0.0.1", then "Done", without bringing me back to the previous page. The third time, it says the same thing as the second time. Then, the fourth time, I can go back to the previous site. It's very frustrating, and I don't know what sort of information they're collecting on me...

I've attached my new Hijackthis log below.

Thanks again for your help!
Alex

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Information on A/V control HERE)
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Hi,

I just finished Combofix, like you suggested. Here is my COMBOFIX.TXT log.
I turned AVG resident shield back on afterwards. I hope that is okay.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi again,

I think the problem is still there. I was just linking to and from yahoo.com. It no longer takes 2-3 clicks to go back to yahoo.com from a page I navigated to, but adyieldmanager.com still keeps showing up in the bottom bar.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi,

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware did not find any malware (see log below). However, I still see my computer accessing www.adyieldmanager.com when I surf between Yahoo.com webpages, though. This is a tough bit of malware to get rid of!!

Thanks,
Alex

Hi,

Here is my F-secure scan report. No malware was detected. I keep seeing "adyieldmanager.com" in my status bar between webpages, however.

Thanks,
Alex

    • If an Active X warning box will appear Click on Install.
Note: If you got the message:"Could not load the Online Scanner! Click here for other possible fixes", it means Internet Explorer has blocked the Active X being installed. Just above the page under the Internet Explorer toolbar you see this message:
"This website wants to install the following add-on: "Bitdefender OnlineScanner v8' from 'BITDEFENDER LLC'. If you trust the website and the add-on and want to install it, click here..."
Click on that and select: Install Active x.
    • Now Click On Start Scan. Please wait as it might take some time.
    • If it found anything when it finished click Click here to export the scan report
    • Give the report a name and save it. The file will be a .HTML file.
    • Please attach the file to your reply.
    • To attach the file press ADDREPLY, under the reply window press Browse... show the path to the file on your computer.
    • Highlight the file and click Open then press the green UPLOAD button.

Hi,

Sorry about the delay. I ran most of the BitDefender scan. It found two things. After it got down to "0 seconds left in scan", it flipped over and told me it would be another 17 hours of scanning. Anyway, I stopped the scan early. Are these two "infected files" relevant?

I am not redirected to any webpages anymore, but I still see adyieldmanager.com in the status bar when navigating to/from Yahoo. Is it still actually there?

Thanks,
Alex
