Each time this computer starts McAfee finds an infected file in system 32\temp infected with Vundo!grb and delets it. However, it must be coming from somewhere. I have ran vundofix and it finds nothing.

When you start the IE7 and go to the homepage (Comcast) the first time antivirus 2009 warning page comes up and wants to scan the computer. IE then locks up and you have to use task manager to kill it. IE will then start and you can go on about your business. If you are quick enough and change pages away from the home page before it loads antivirus 2009 comes up but you can cancel it and go on.

Other symptons.

Automatic update service is disabled and will not enable.

Msconfig launches but you cannot change anything. You get a permissions statement.

When I was at McAfee's site this morning reading about Vundo!grb at least 50 blank IE pages started. I had to use task manager to shut IE down. I was then able to go to McAfee and read that they have no flipping idea what to do about Vundo or Antivirus 2009.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

I have corrected this problem. I used a combo of Super antispyware, Malwarebytes, Spybot, Adaware, and hijackthis. This was not my computer but a friends who teaches grade school and she uses it for lesson plans and research. She needed it back bad so I just kept hammering at it.

If her teenagers would stay off it and quit downloading every thing in the know universe she wouldn't have these problems.

Thanks for answering. I wish I had time to wait.
