I am attempting to help a friend fix their computer which was badly infected with some viruses and malware. I have read some other posts in this forum and have followed the instructions given. I beleive I have gotten rid of most of the problems, but now I get an error:

Services & controller app has encountered a problem and needs to close
Then I get the 60 second countdown to shut down from NT Authority.

Any help appreciated.

I don't believe you're still infected, rather an infected file was deleted or quarantined and needs to be replaced.
You need an original Windows CD and run SFC /scannow

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
