I have windows xp media centre running Sp3, currently it loads windows upto the welcome screen which does not appear, instead we have a mouse cursor and a black screen. Futile hours of searching lead me to one solution put in the xp disk and repair the installation. Sadly we don't have a disk as it is preloaded onto a seperate partition on the drive. I have had the drive in as a slave on a spare computer, scanned for anti virus and it is clean.
I can enter the recovery console and have done the chckdsk scans.
Checking the directories the last alteration before this was a windows update log.
Is there a way round this as some of the data on the drive is password protected and can't be accessed.
Can anyone help
