Google searches seem slower and results pages have bogus entries whose title looks somewhat related to the actual search term(s), but, the giveaway is that the URL's are completely unrelated. Clicking on one of them (stupid human curiosity :) ) led to a page which took over FireFox 3 and claimed that our computer was running slowly and therefore we should download and install AntiVirus Plus ! Right! :step4: Trying to close the window using the X in the top right corner fails, the program launches and starts scanning.

So here we are... Have tried many things.... among them: MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spy-Bot S&D.

One other strange symptom, have noticed, just today, that a file named "22; Media Center PC 4.0)" is being created all over the computer. First noticed it on the Desktop and when I deleted it, it reappeared within two minutes. Have since found it in other directories, too.

Hoping to find a way to clean up Google and reassert dominion over this little box of spare parts that connects me to the world.

Firewall is up. Logs are attached. Optimism on full.
....thanking you in advance :thumbup2:

Hi, I was digging around and found the link, below. Removing the file wdmaud.sys (not .drv) from C:\windows\system32 on my XP system did the trick, as stated in the linky.

So, thanks for being here, but, I'm all good for now. No more stinking virii (at the moment...).
Peace. Consider this a closed post.
