Hello, I have used computers since Atari - but certainly not a tech. My HP desktop was running XP without issue - when suddenly, following a power outage? there is no sound from spealers connected to Creative SB Extigy [via USB port]. I tried Search for Hardware - there was a .exe file needed, which ONLY a driver detective program could provide - I bought installed and ran Driver Detective [which said my Extigy drivers are up-to-date - but disabled Firewire which I had to un-Update!]{USELESS!!}. Re-installing the original SB disc was zero help -and running the Tutorail froze my computer?

Anyway, despite several Uninstalls, Reboots, Find Hardware, and examining Bios for both Legacy and Auto detect - the results are the same:

In Control Panel -Sounds and Audio Devices Properties - under Volume No Audio Devices. Under Audio - Sound Playback - Default Device the panel is Grey [allowing no selection], as is Volume and Advanced. Sound Recording Default device shows Creative SB Extigy as does MIDI music playback -clicking Use Default Device has no affect.

Hardware under Soud Devices shows [Audio codecs, audio codecs,Creative SB Extigy,Legacy audio drivers,Legacy Video cature,Media Control Devices,Realtek High Definition Audio, Video Codecs. Under SB Properies =- Location(0) under Device Status "This device is working properly".. Unded Device Usage - Use This Device. Driver is Creatice Technology Ltd 4/17/2002

I did an Uninstal - bought another USB [Virtual 7.1 Sound]audio device - no luck. Tried loading CD for divers - no luck. I am back to square 1

I am at my wit's end.

Go into Device Manager and look for yellow exclamation points by the USB hub controllers. Maybe they're bad
