I have run spybot, adaware, and microsoft antispyware all after being updated and I am still fighting some popups. I know nail.exe is one of them, also aurora keeps showing up. BTW, I run the spyware software in both safemode and regular. Thank you for your help.

Hello kranz68osu and welcome to the BC forums. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Download and install ewido security suite. Update the program and then close it. Do not run it yet.

Step #2

Download nailfix.zip and unzip it to its own folder.

Step #3

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #4

Navigate to the folder you unzipped nailfix.zip into and double-click on nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Step #5

Start ewido and click on the Scanner button. On the Scanner page click on My Computer and then click the Start button to begin the scan. Let it run to completion and fix anything that it finds.

Step #6

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {02EE5B04-F144-47BB-83FB-A60BD91B74A9} - C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\SskBho.dll
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AUNPS2] RUNDLL32 AUNPS2.DLL,_Run@16
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTask driver] C:\WINDOWS\System32\wintask.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [98D0CE0C16B1] rundll32.exe D0CE0C16B1,D0CE0C16B1
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\pzmmpv.exe reg_run
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [seeve] C:\WINDOWS\seeve.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fcetih] c:\windows\system32\bacbccr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [USB controller] "C:\DOCUME~1\JENNIF~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\ICD1.tmp\svcmm32.exe" /startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [i7pvdlms] C:\WINDOWS\System32\i7pvdlms.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [a9pmRVG8W] wriberos.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [wship6] C:\WINDOWS\System32\wship6.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [sf] C:\Program Files\sf\sf.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [sfita] C:\WINDOWS\sfita.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [wuor] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\wuor\wuorm.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe
O4 - Global Startup: strings.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.media-motor.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.popuppers.com

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #7

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\ <--folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wintask.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\pzmmpv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\seeve.exe
c:\windows\system32\bacbccr.exe
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\JENNIF~1 (a folder whose name starts with JENNIF)\LOCAL SETTINFS\Temp\ICD1.tmp\svcmm32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\i7pvdlms.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wship6.exe
C:\Program Files\sf\ <--folder
C:\WINDOWS\sfita.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\wuor\ <--folder

Now search for these files and delete all instances. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.AUNPS2.DLL
D0CE0C16B1.*
wriberos.exe
strings.exe

Step #8

Reboot your computer normally, download CleanUp! and install it. Start CleanUp! and click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion. It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient.

Step #9

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.
