Hi

My name is Extremeboy (or EB for short), and I will be helping you with your log.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

If you do not make a reply in 5 days, we will need to close your topic.

You may want to keep the link to this topic in your favourites. Alternatively, you can click the Posted Image button at the top bar of this topic and Track this Topic. The topics you are tracking can be found here.

Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:
  • Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools.
  • If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
  • Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean". We do not want to clean you part-way, only to have the system re-infect itself.
  • Please reply using the Posted Image button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply.
  • Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just post back here so that we know you're still here.

From the description of your topic it seems you have a very nasty infection including a rootkit. Let's see what we find..

Install Recovery Console and Run ComboFix

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
  • Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are not sure how.
  • Close any open windows, including this one.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • If you did not have it installed, you will see the prompt below. Choose YES.
  • Posted Image
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Note:The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you
should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

    Posted Image
  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the contents of the log (C:\ComboFix.txt).
Leave your computer alone while ComboFix is running.
ComboFix will restart your computer if malware is found; allow it to do so.

Note: Please Do NOT mouseclick combofix's window while its running because it may call it to stall.

Download and Run Scan with GMER

We will use GMER to scan for rootkits.
  • Download gmer.zip and save to your desktop.
    Alternate Download Site 1
  • Unzip/extract the file to its own folder. (Click here for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 2000 users click here.
  • When you have done this, disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
  • Double-click on Gmer.exe to start the program.
  • Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan...click NO.
  • Click the >>>
  • Click on Settings, then check the first five settings:
    • System Protection and Tracing
    • Processes
    • Save created processes to the log
    • Drivers
    • Save loaded drivers to the log
  • You will be prompted to restart your computer. Please do so.
After the reboot, run Gmer again and click on the Rootkit tab.
  • Look at the right hand side (under Files) and uncheck all drives with the exception of your C drive.
  • Make sure all other boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for Show All.
  • Click on the Scan and wait for the scan to finish.
Note: Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan. You will know that the scan is done when the Stop buttons turns back to Scan.
  • When completed, click on the Copy button and right-click on your Desktop, choose New>Text document. Once the file is created, open it and right-click again and choose Paste. Save the file as gmer.txt and copy the information in your next reply.
If GMER doesn't work in Normal Mode try running it in Safe Mode

Important!:Please do not select the Show all checkbox during the scan..

Post back with:
-Combofix log
-GMER log
-New Hijackthis log
-Description of any problems you still have

With Regards,
Extremeboy

Hello.

There is still quite alot of stuff to do before we are done.

View Point Programs Warning
Viewpoint Manager and Viewpoint Media Player is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This changed from what we know in 2006 read this article:

http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

I suggest you remove the program now. Click on start > run > and then paste the following into the "open" field: appwiz.cpl and press OK. From within Add or Remove Programs uninstall the following if they exist: Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player.

Additional instructions on remocing program can be found here.

Download and Run FlashDisinfector
  • Please download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden file named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder. It will help protect your drives from future infection.

Run ComboFix with CFScript

We will run ComboFix again. This time, the instructions are slightly different.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are unsure how.
  • Open notepad (Start>Run>"notepad") and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
    File::
    c:\windows\system32\imod3.dll
    c:\windows\system32\vimuvayo.exe
    c:\windows\system32\0s_install.exe
    c:\windows\system32\swapk.sys
    c:\windows\system32\6BAB4D83D9.dll

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
    "AntiVirusDisableNotify"=dword:00000000
    "UpdatesDisableNotify"=dword:00000000
    Driver::
    Btp1ssvcdsm
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe. (This should be your desktop.)
    Posted Image
Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt". Post back with that log.

Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

You can now take out your Flash-Drives/Removable drives

Download and Run DAFT

Download Deckard's Association File Tool DAFT from Here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on it and clickRun.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • If it finds faulty file associations, they will appear in red beside a checkbox
  • Click Save Log and save daft.txt
  • Then place a checkmark (tick) in the boxes in question.
  • Click the Fix button.
  • Copy and paste the content of daft.txt to your reply.
Post back with:
-Combofix log
-New GMER log
-New Hijackthis log
-What problems do you have?

extremeboy,

Thanks for the quick reply. Attached are the new logs.

Also, when I turned Symantec VirusScan back on, many entries for Vundo appeared, so I guess it's still around.

Hello again.

One note, please do not attach the logs again, post it directly here unless I tell you to attach it or if it's too large to post.

Also, when I turned Symantec VirusScan back on, many entries for Vundo appeared, so I guess it's still around.

Many? What's many, tell me if your Symantec still detect many vundo after running MBAM and Combofix with CFSCript.

Apparently I was blind and missed some files that needed to be removed, we will remove it this round. I was probably looking at another log then, sorry must of got confused.. Let's take care of those now :thumbup2:

Run ComboFix with CFScript

We will run ComboFix again. This time, the instructions are slightly different.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are unsure how.
  • Open notepad (Start>Run>"notepad") and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
    File::
    c:\windows\system32\litikusi.dll
    c:\windows\system32\zahasila.dll

    DirLook::
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\~0
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe. (This should be your desktop.)
    Posted Image
Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt". Post back with that log.

Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Submit File to Online Scanner

There is a file that I would like you to check out for me using VirusTotal/VirSCAN
  • Open VirusTotal Online Scanner or VirSCAN. If one site is busy or down, try the other
  • At the top of the page you'll see a box. Paste in the following line(s) (do one line at a time).
  • c:\documents and settings\Justin\hobjni.dll
  • Click Submit.
  • Wait for the scan to finish.
  • Copy Scanner Results into your next reply.
  • If more than one file was listed, repeat for each of them.
Download and run MalwareBytes Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Hi Extremeboy,

Virscan.org found no malware in hobjni.dll. I will give you a log if symantec finds any files again. There hasn't been any random pop-ups when I am using the internet so I think the computer is getting a lot better! Here are the logs.

Hello again.

Virscan.org found no malware in hobjni.dll. I will give you a log if symantec finds any files again. There hasn't been any random pop-ups when I am using the internet so I think the computer is getting a lot better! Here are the logs.

That's what I wanted to hear :thumbup2:

It seems you ran MBAM before Combofix, next time please run tools in the order I have provided it for you starting from the top to bottom.

Looks good so far.

Update Java to Version 6 Update 12

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 Update 12 and save it to your desktop.
  • Look for "Java Runtime Environment (JRE)" JRE 6 Update 12.
  • Click the Download button to the right.
  • Select your Platform: "Windows".
  • Select your Language: "Multi-language".
  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
  • Under Required Files, check the box for Windows Offline Installation, click the link below it and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u12-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
*If using Windows Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissions, then Run As Administrator.
** If you choose to update via the Java applet in Control Panel, uncheck the option to install the Toolbar unless you want it.
*** The uninstaller incorporated in this release removes previous Updates 10 and above, but does not remove older versions, so they still need to be removed manually.

Additonal Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click Ok and reboot your computer.

Run Scan with Kaspersky

Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner.

If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  • Please disable your realtime protection software before proceeding. Refer to this page if you are unsure how.
  • Open the Kaspersky Scanner page.
  • Click on Accept and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report
  • Now, click on the Save Report as button.
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
You can refer to this animation by sundavis.

Symantec is still identifying trojan vundo / trojan metajuan.
Filename: A000030.dll, A000031.dll, A000032.dll and so on keeps going past 50
Location: c:\system volume information\_restore{4D6BEA17-F0FC-48F3-9A6E-F4DFEC719F06}\RP2\

Hello.

Overall looks good, some files we need to take care of. Also, please empty everything your Symantec quarantined in the control panel of Symantec Anti-Virus. That file your Symantec is picking up is a system restore point, those will be gone once we uninstall Combofix and remove the older system restore points :thumbup2:

Please delete Combofix.exe that is on your desktop right now, and re-download a new copy and save in on your desktop in one of the following links:
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

Run ComboFix with CFScript

We will run ComboFix again. This time, the instructions are slightly different.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are unsure how.
  • Open notepad (Start>Run>"notepad") and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\DsKey.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\girorade.dll.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\habawogu.dll.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\huwifolu.dll.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rayeboke.dll.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\yibavisu.dll.tmp
    F:\Torrents\Minitab 15.1\MTB15.exe
    F:\Torrents\Minitab 15.1.rar
    Folder::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\44\232f2a6c-12efa65d
    C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\44\232f2a6c-4aa3cae8
    C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\44\232f2a6c-67aa5236
    C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\44\232f2a6c-7f2dabf0
    C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar

Post back with:
-Combofix log
-Any remaining problems you still have
-New Hijackthis log

With Regards,
Extremeboy

Run Scan with Kaspersky

Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner.

Hello.

A few things to do. Please empty everything your Symantec Anti-Virus quarantined. Alternatively you can go to the following folder an delete everything in there if you can:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine<- Empty Everything out in this folder.

There are some Java infected cache we will use OTMoveIT to deal with that. The rest are just mainly quarantined items from Combofix and some restore points. Those will be removed when we wrap up everything.

Download and Run OTMoveIT3
  • Please download OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer and save it to your desktop. If you are running on Vista, right click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
  • Double click the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Paste the following code under the Posted Image area. Do not include the word "Code".
    :files
    C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\44\232f2a6c-12efa65d

    :commands
    [EmptyTemp]
    [Reboot]
  • Click the large Posted Image button.
  • Copy/Paste the contents under the Posted Image line here in your next reply.
Note:If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Post back with:
-OTMoveIT log
-New Hijackthis log
