Changing Antivirus programs, in what order?

Do I get rid of AVG first and then download AVAST? That seems risky downloading something without an antivirus program. Or do I download AVAST first and them uninstall AVG? I plan on doing a repair console also, should I do that before anything else? Thanks for any advise.. Oh, I have XP home

I suggest you download and save somewhere safe the Avast exe then try and remove the AVG antivirus program

I noticed that THAT issue has caused problems for another reader on this thread

so I thought it worth pointing out for you but I suggest you OMIT trying either the HJT tool nor the ComboFix tool mentioned in that thread ; there are gentler and safer ways of removing AVG than that :thumbsup:
