Hello, I have a problem.

This whole deal basicly started when i about after Christmas installed the game Spore on my computer. During the instalation it said that some graphic drive routies (i have my computer language set to swedish, so im not sure if it quite translates as that) were outdated and should be updated. I tried gaming, it worked, shut down from time to time (i will get to a point with this!). i decided to update. So, when i used microsoft update from the start menu it redirected to msn.com and windows update turned up blank page. two days later windows update redirected to google and microsoft update went to an odd 404 not found.
I have a picture of it, but its to big to upload.

I also have some problems with AVG 8.0 Free: It cant update. this problem started before the other. And even before that, my Norton Antivirus keeps telling me that it is not updated when it is (sometimes it downloads and installs updates, put it still says that it is not up to date)

I found that my problem is suspiciously similar to that which is described by an other user here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/lof...hp/t193557.html

I have some other smaller problems as well, but these are not urgent.

Eagerly awaits a response and hopes that I have provided enough info.

The process of cleaning your computer may require temporarily disabliling some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
  • Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note:
-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Note 2:
-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Have restarted and all, AVG updated, norton said that a liveUpdate is running in the background and must be finished before preforming a new. it finished, preformed another, said its up to date and after that it still claims that the definitions is from 2008-01-16. It was a bit slow to start, which i do hope i didn't forget to mention earlier (it was part of the problem that began occuring togeather with the windows update problem). Windows update now works. it asked me twice if i wanted to install the software required for the update. first i said yes, then i reallised that maybe i should wait in case you wants to do more scans.
One more thing, sometimes, when i turn of the computer the second that i turned of a big app like a game, it says something like "terminating program: ccapp.exe" (once again, i am not sure if that is the right translation). is this normal?

How is it running now? Rereading the post I just noticed this statement:

AVG 8.0 Free: It cant update. this problem started before the other. And even before that, my Norton Antivirus keeps telling me that it is not updated when it is

Running more than one anti-virus at a time will cause problems

This is the current situation:
Norton thinks that it is not updated, but it is. I have had previous problems with liveupdate, so it could be something as simple as a corrupted file. AVG is functioning normally, previously it wouldnt update. And the only times that the two has conflicted is when they detects a virus or something and i have to chose which one to remove it with. The computer is slower than it has been in startup, but i am intending to run CCleaner and some other apps that you recommend. Windows update is working as it is supposed to do. The only thing that i am really worried about is the fact that sometimes, when i turn of the computer right after quiting a game with lots of info loaded in the RAM (like Spore, which often is taking up around half a gigabyte) it sometimes says "Terminating program: ccapp.exe" and sometimes "Terminating program: .NET Broadcast (or broadcasting) Window" and some more. it passes so quickly that i dont have time to read it. Note that this only happens when the computer is already working hard with something else, like shutting down a big app. I think ccapp is normal, since its a pretty big part of the norton antivirus suite. its the other one that im worried about. you dont know if the computer saves some kind of logfile over the shutdown process?

A-V's not updating could be the sign of a more serious infection
Even though you think to 2 A-V's aren't conflicting, they are.
From what I can see, .NET Broadcast is for ATI's Catalyst Control Center

ou dont know if the computer saves some kind of logfile over the shutdown process?

Go to the Control Panel > Administrative Tools, and look in the Event Viewer for clues

What do you suggest then? i can try reinstalling Norton, or i could just get rid of it and use AVG only. Btw, found some stuff in the logs, a whole bunch of sporeapp.exe application errors and some application hangs, which makes sense, considering how many times that it has shut down. But i guess that belongs in the Games forum. And apart from that, nothing. It didnt seem as if it keeps logs for shutdown, only startup. Anyway, as i see it, the comp seems problem-free. Now, which tools would you recommend me to use for optimising system performance?
