I have gotten rid of some spyware with the scanner built in PC Cillin, but it is back now. PC Cillin no longer detects it, yet I am still getting random pop-ups.

Anyway, I'm sure I don't have to tell you my problem. So here is my log file

Welcome BaRRa to Bleeping Computer.

You are running HijackThis from the Desktop; please create a new folder for it and move the program into the new folder.

***

You have Spybot S&D's Teatimer running which is good, but we need you to disable it for the remainder of the fix as it will interfere with the registry changes being made.
Open Spybot S&D in advanced mode, click Tools > Resident, and remove the check from "Resident Tea-Timer". Reboot after unchecking the entry.

***

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

This will likely be a few step process in removing the malware that has infected your system. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

***

You have a nasty CoolWebSearch infection. First we will need to download a few tools that will help us in the removal of your problem.

Download about:buster by RubbeRDuckY Here.
Download CWShredder Here.
Download SpSeHjfix Here.
Download and install CleanUp! Here

Save all of these files somewhere you will remember like to the Desktop.

***

Unzip SpSeHjfix to its own folder (ie c:\SpSeHjfix)

***

Run the CleanUp! installer. You dont need to do anything with it right now.

***

Update About:Buster
  • Unzip the contents of AboutBuster.zip and an AboutBuster directory will be created.
  • Navigate to the AboutBuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
  • Click "OK" at the prompt with instructions.
  • Click "Update" and then "Check For Update" to begin the update process.
  • If any updates exist please download them by clicking "Download Update" then click the X to close that window.
  • Now close About:Buster
***

Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
***

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

***

Please run About:Buster:
  • Click Start and then OK to allow AboutBuster to scan for Alternate Data Streams.
  • Click Yes to allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
  • It will begin to check your computer for malicious files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.
  • When it has finished, click Save Log. Make sure you save it as I may need a copy of it later.
  • Reboot your computer into safe mode again
Run about:buster again following the same instructions as above, this time without the restart at the end.

***

Run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

***

Run SpSeHjfix. A log will be saved in the same folder that you put the exe into. Please post the results of that log in your next reply.

***

Now run CleanUp! Click CleanUp and allow it to delete all the temporary files. Reboot your computer into normal windows.

***

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

***

Download:
this file

Unzip the file to your desktop.
Doubleclick the file jobs.bat.

Copy and paste the content of the file jobs.txt it creates, here in your answer.

***

After all that, please post back with how things went as well as the logs requested and a new HiJackThis log.

Thanks for your assistance. One problem I have noticed is that I can no longer select the Windows XP Option in Display Properties-->Appearance-->Windows and Buttons. A simple thing to fix I'm sure, I probably can work it out myself.

Here are the logs you requested.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: burn mags test - {49438F51-EC81-EEA8-5A4E-F6E0300C40B8} -
C:\PROGRA~1\SHIMTH~1\BitsGlobal.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: Starware - {CA356D79-679B-4b4c-8E49-5AF97014F4C1} - C:\Program Files\Starware\bin\Starware.dll

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {62999427-33FC-4baf-9C9C-BCE6BD127F08} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: Dumb Dale Mix - {019C23C8-1E0F-407A-0C39-343314C5E657} -
C:\PROGRA~1\SHIMTH~1\BitsGlobal.dll (file missing)

O3 - Toolbar: Starware - {D49E9D35-254C-4c6a-9D17-95018D228FF5} - C:\Program Files\Starware\bin\Starware.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Pokesoap] C:\PROGRA~1\TeamChicHope\Tons wave open.exe

O16 - DPF: {75D1F3B2-2A21-11D7-97B9-0010DC2A6243}
(SecureLogin.SecureControl) - http://secure2.comned.com/signuptemplates/ActiveSecurity.cab

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Reboot the computer.
Allow the changes when you are prompted to.

***
Download the following file and unzip it to your desktop. Then doubleclick it and grant permission to merge the registry entries.

restoretool

***

Reboot the computer and post back with a fresh log using HijackThis.
How are things now?

My PC seems to be running a little better now. Explorer kept crashing cause of that starware.dll file. I didn't realise I had so much bleep on here! How bad was it compared to others?

I was worried when my mouse didn't work after removing that stuff with hijackthis, You didn't mention anything about that  That registry thing fixed it up thankfully.

Here is the latest hijackthis log file. Thanks again!

You didn't mention anything about that tongue.gif

I didn't expect it, but I'm glad it work out in the end.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

***

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.
Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

***

Post the logscan of Ewido here in your reply.

All seems good now, programs are loading much faster.

I ran into a big problem with the virus scan though, it was at least 80% done and I got a bloody blue screen. I'll try running it again later and post my results.

Thanks.
