Hello buholley and welcome to the BC forums. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Please perform the following steps:
  • Download Cwshredder.exe and save it to a folder of its own. Start the program and click on the Check for Update button. If an update is available then download and install it. Close the program (do not run it yet).
  • Download SpSeHjfix.zip and unzip it to it's own folder. Do not run it yet.
  • Download CleanUp! and install it. Start CleanUp! and click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion. It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient.
  • Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
    • Press the Enter key.
  • Disconnect from the net and Close ALL OPEN PROGRAMS.
  • Run SpSeHjfix and click on Start Disinfection.
When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process.
The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the folder that SpSeHjfix is located in.
  • Now run CWShredder and click on the Fix -> button.
  • Reboot and repeat the above process.
Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and the log that was created by SpSeHjfix.

Cheers.

thank you again.

Hi buholley. To post the other log open Notepad and then open the log file. It is a text-based file. Then copy/paste the contents here.

Cheers.

Hi buholley. That looks much better. We still have a couple of items to clean up so let's take care of those.

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm (file missing)
O15 - Trusted IP range: 81.222.131.59
O15 - Trusted IP range: 81.222.131.59 (HKLM)
O21 - SSODL: Sysctl Desktop Handler - {23456789-0000-0020-0900-00AAFF6D2EA4} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\NTOSV.DLL (file missing)

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Hi buholley. Yu are correct. The 015's need to go. Let's do the following.

Step #1

Download DelDomains.zip and unzip it to your desktop.

Locate the Deldomains.inf file on your desktop and right-click on it. Choose Install and if prompted choose Yes or Ok to any further prompts.

Step #2

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {BA035460-CA38-11D9-BAF7-444553540000} - (no file) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {BA035460-CA38-11D9-BAF7-444553540000} - (no file) (HKCU)
O15 - Trusted IP range: 81.222.131.59 (if this and the next item are still present check them also)
O15 - Trusted IP range: 81.222.131.59 (HKLM)

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #3

I see no signs of an anti-virus on this machine. An anti-virus applicaiton is your first line of defense against internet and email infections. I highly encourage you to install one of these 2 free anti-virus programs:Step #4

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

regarding the anti-virus software, i do have panda installed now (the software came with a modem driver CD that i had never used) but while the virus was on the computer it kept disabling the protections. it appears to be working now.

if you consider those other programs to be more effective than panda, i'll definitely take your advice.

thanks again.

falcon

apparently you have a little trouble paying attention - you were told not to post on this link and you have done so again.

old timer removed your other post - here's his comment to you from a few days ago:

Hi buholley. I apologize about the other poster. I took their 2nd post and jailed it and put their name on our list of people to watch.

Now, regarding your log, it is clean. Good job! How are things running? Any problems?

Panda is a good anti-virus product. If it came with your modem drivers it will probably have a 3 to 6 month subscription and then you will need to purchase a yealy license to continue to get updates. You may do that or you can look at one of the free ones that we suggest in the information below. I personally use the Avast free verison and it is a great product.

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the View menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • In the Hidden files section unselect Show all files.
  • Click OK.
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 3 free ones available for personal use:and a good antivirus (these are also free for personal use):It is critical to have both a firewall and antivirus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit monthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scanners
weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Have a safe and happy computing day!
