Hello -- I use Firefox as my primary browser on my laptop, but have to use IE7 for some specific sites. iGoogle is my homepage and now when going to my homepage, multiple IE7 pages open with ads from Sylvan Learning Center, make-up companies, etc...

I have run Adaware, Malwarebyte's Antimalware, and AdWatch to no avail...

Below is my HijackThis log. Can a specialist please analyze and direct me in how to clean up my registry? I use the laptop for my business and don't want to have to reformat my pc.

Thanks very much for any help that can be provided!!!!!

Hi,

I need some more info what this exactly installed, because you're dealing with the CiD sponsor and this one comes installed with other software.
Please do not uninstall anything for the moment, otherwise logs won't make sense.

Do next please..

Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
---------------------------------------------------

Copy and paste the contents of DDS.txt in your next reply. Do not copy and paste the contents of Attach.txt, but attach it to your reply instead.

Hi,

It looks like it was Napster which installed the adware software (CiD Help) with it.
You've already uninstalled Napster though.

Now you'll have to uninstall CiD Help via software > add & remove programs.

I also suggest to uninstall Webshots Desktop, because I see they've installed some extra adware components now as well, such as the extra Searchhook and Toolbar. (this wasn't like that before though). Reference here.

Then reboot.

After reboot,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R3 - URLSearchHook: AGSearchHook Class - {0BC6E3FA-78EF-4886-842C-5A1258C4455A} - C:\Program Files\AGI\common\agcutils.dll
O2 - BHO: AGSearchHook Class - {0BC6E3FA-78EF-4886-842C-5A1258C4455A} - C:\Program Files\AGI\common\agcutils.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Sixth exit vga dash] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Okay Way Sixth Exit\HTM FILE.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [spam upload] C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\APPLIC~1\BARBTR~1\GlobalPoke.exe
O4 - Startup: Webshots.lnk = C:\Program Files\Webshots\Launcher.exe
O23 - Service: AG Windows Service (AGWinService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\AGI\common\win32\PythonService.exe

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Then,

* Download Deljob.exe and save it on your desktop.
Doubleclick Deljob.exe.

A log, (logit.txt) should open afterwards. This log will be present on your desktop
Post the contents of the logfile in your next reply together with a new Hijackthislog.

No, no need for new logs since your previous log already looked clear except for that folder which you have deleted already. :thumbup2:

Good to hear the issue is resolved now. :)

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
