Good day,

I'm having an issue where, upon booting, my Windows 2000 laptop doesn't appear to complete booting. Upon further examination, it does boot, but the task bar goes away and I cannot seem to get it back. I'm able to do a ctrl-alt-del and open the task manager. From there, I can open a command prompt window and, using DOS commands, navigate around and start windows programs.

I can start firefox, ad-aware, ... I can access the internet. When I try to execute \winnt\explorer.exe, I do not get an error, BUT I also do not get the explorer!

I'm open to suggestions as to where I can look to fix this!

Thanks,
joe.

I suggest that unless you are an expert with the registry do not attempt to modify it yourself.

Look in the tutorial section and see how to download Hijack This and how to submit a HJT log on this forum. Once you do that the HJT team members will give you explicit instructions as to what to do.

I figured it out... I had inadvertently deleted the googledesktop search dll and that caused windows not to load explorer. After reinstalling google desktop search, the machine starts up just fine.
