My son turned on his computer this evening and got the dreaded blue screen. Says "stop c000021a (Fatal System Error) The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000135 (0x00000000) (0x00000000)
The system has been shut down."

This happens starting up with or without safe mode.

Any suggestions?
Is it a virus or hard drive problem?
Thank for any help.

If you can, reboot the computer and after the initial screen start tapping the F8 key. If the option "last known good configuration" is offered, arrow down/up to it and select Enter. Give it some time to do it's job and hopefully that will work. More reading here:

Can you access safe mode command prompt?

safe mode command prompt and type in...
RSTRUI

rstrui.exe is a process which allows System Restore for Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.
