Dear All,

First of all, glad to join your forums! A few days back my desktop was infected with Spyware Guard 2009 along with some other viruses. The viruses caused Spybot, MalwareBytes, and my internet all to stop working. The programs simply would not open and both of my web browsers, after clicking a link, would open my spyware/malware websites.

After searching on my laptop, I managed to find directions to manually delete the virus files and the tdssserv.sys file that was located as hidden hardware. I have Win XP Pro SP2 with AVG free (updated) running as my virus scanner. After about 3 hours I finally got things to work again, where the Spyware Guard ad no longer pops open and I can run the spyware tools. The AVG-Antirootkit found 15 rootkits on my system. I had AVG-Antirootkit remove all the rootkits it found - they all related to the TDSSkecj.dll, TDSSwhct.dat, TDSS____ variety.

I have since run the following and come up clean:
Spybot Search & Destroy
AVG Free virus scan
MalwareBytes Anti-malware
AVG Antirootkit Free
Sophos AntiRootkit

I want to make sure I'm completely fixed. Please let me know if this HiJackThis log checks out okay.

Note that in my frustration/following of another post with a similar problem, I did already run combofix, although it never completed due to a C:Windows\System32 not recognized error.

Many Thanks!

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
