I have a HP DVD Writer 300n and it has recently stopped burning to DVD-R and has stopped reading DVDs. It will still read CDs and burn audio CDs just fine. I have several burning programs, my main one being Ashampoo. They will not recognize DVD-Rs. WMP will not play DVDs. When I click on MY Computer, it shows the drive but it doesn't show the DVD. - Just not recognizing DVDs at all.

I'm not sure but I suspect I have deleted something that I need for the drive to recognize DVDs. Or maybe the drive is just going out.

I have cleaned the drive with a CD cleaner. I have restarted my computer. I have tried to update the driver but it says the latest driver is already installed.

I'm not what to do next. Should I uninstall it? And if so, will Windows reinstall upon reboot?

Any advice?
