USB ports can be added using three designs: External with its own power; External using USB's power; and Internal expansion board.

What are the pros and cons and intended uses of each design, and what do you recommend?

Thanks.

Powered external - no draw on the systems power supply, adds to desk clutter, uses one available plug-in on your Surge Protector/UPS
Non-powered external - draws on systems power supply, adds to desk clutter
(also, some USB devices will not work properly, on an external hub)

Internal - draws on systems power supply, uses up one available expansion slot, no desk clutter

It's really a "personal preference" thing.
Personally, I prefer internal, because I have enough garbage on my desk, as it is.
