Some antiviruses, like Norton, leave so much garbage behind when they uninstall that they need a removal tool in order to remove all traces of it. My question is which antiviruses and firewalls need a removal tool in order to remove all traces of it?

If you want to avoid conflicts, if you want a quiet, fast computer, the answer is ALL in my opinion.
Either use the vendor's removal tools and/or follow the vendor's uninstallation instructions.
Often, right off the Program files is an uninstaller.
If not, search through the vendor's site should have information about uninstalling procedure.
