Hey

How's it going?

I have a little problem. I recently formatted my computer and had everything re-installed. I'm currently running Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 and I have BitDefender internet security 2009. I installed Bitdefender about two weeks ago and haven't had any problems until last week. My windows update's no longer download even when you go into the services window and tell it to start manually (services.msc). Bit defender picked up a few copies of the trojan.vundo virus and deleted all of them. I installed malwares antimalware software and that also picked up a few copies.... however when both Bitdefender and Malware scanned the system32 and dllcache folders, both slowed right down. In my frustration i clicked my mouse a few times and the whole system hung urg..

SO... i haven't solved that yet.. my computer also randomly hangs when I go into the dllcache folder or system32 folder... not all the time though. My computer also gives me that windows error sound.. the "dung" sound.. but i get no error message. I can play games fine and type documents but when i try open more than one webpage my computer freezes. I tried downloading the new amd drivers and new java software at the same time and my pc hung, even when I was searching for some solutions to this problem.

So whats the diagnosis Doc?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Here's the HJT log...

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums.

Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Please post the contents of log.txt.
Thank you for your patience.

Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem.

If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped.

Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so.

While we are working on your HijackThis log, please:
  • Reply to this thread; do not start another!
  • Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so.
  • Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so!
  • Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work.
  • Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix.
  • Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix.
  • Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.
Thanks.

The bad block messages are a serious error report of current device failures and impending total device failure. Your Hard Disk Drive may be going bad. Let me check with the computer experts.

The information I received confirms my research. You should run chkdsk /f /r to recover the data from the bad block and replace the drive as the drive has a good chance of going bad sooner than later.
Click Start > Run. Type chkdsk /f /r. Click OK.

Hey

Hectic, so there's no virus infection, just a hard drive problem? That sucks, just bought this drive 2 months ago to add to my other drives! Good thing for quarantee's!! I take it this bad sector is on the hard disk where windows is running off? If you scan that drive it freezes and gives you a blue screen and then restarts the pc.. so i'm assuming it is that drive... urg.

Thank you for your help, it is greatly appreciated!
