So recently I've been having issues with my computer (go figure). I currently have AVG for Anti-Virus and ZoneAlarm for a firewall, and i run Spybot S&D and AdAware frequently, but still in the past week my computer has suddenly started arbitrarily crashing and random programs will freeze up. I can't seem to be able to run AIM anymore either, though obviously IE is working fine. I downloaded IMesh 5 a couple months ago, but I've got AVG running with it so before I download anything, AVG scans it for viruses (or at least it should be). Also, when I start up my computer, i immediately get a error saying that my cwawdm (which I figured out is something to do with the sound) file is corrupted, but whether or not this is somehow connected to anything else I'm not sure, but i figured i'd mention it anyway.
Basically, just wondering if anyone could help me out here. Am posting a HJT log, and I'd appreciate any help I could get. Thanks a lot!

Hey swizilstix. the only problem I see is iMesh. It's an adware/spyware file-sharing app that can cause crashes in IE (which can cause other problems as well). See the article for more information and how to remove it:

http://www.spyany.com/program/article_spw_rm_IMesh.html

Next, you are currently running an older version of HijackThis. Please click on the link below and download the most current version:HijackThis_sfx.exe
Delete your current HijackThis.exe file and double-click on the file you just downloaded and then click on the Unzip button to install the newer version. It will be installed to the C:\Program Files\HijackThis\ directory by default.

Start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here as a relpy to this topic and I will review it when it comes in.

Ah, so we meet again, OldTimer.
Damn. I was hoping you wouldn't say that about IMesh. Meh. Shoulda known this was coming.
Anyway, I did what you said: uninstalled IMesh and got the new version of HJT. My computer's still acting up, but it might just mean that its getting old - I think the suspision I had that it was just some pesky spyware or adware was only wishful thinking on my part. Not to jinx it or anything - not really in the mood to be dealing w/ malware again.
Well, enough of my babbling. Here's the log you wanted. Thanks for all your help (again)! :flowers:

Hey swizilstix. That log looks clean. Have any of the problems gone away? Have any more cropped up? What are you doing for the summer months (sorry, bad joke).

There are a number of p2p applications that are considered non-infected. Here's a link for your purusing:

Clean and Infected File Sharing Programs

Give me some feedback on what problems are on-going and we'll take it from there.

Glad to see you're still kickin.

ok sorry about the delay. road runner flaked out for a while and we just now got it up and working again.
anyway, the first problem I noticed was that everytime I boot up my comp I get one of those blue screens, which says (to paraphrase) fatal exception in VXD cwawdm (03) and then i get the infamous choice of either terminating the program or shutting down my computer, which achieves nothing. so, once I terminate it, my sound no longer works no matter what I do, which, of course, is a bleep.
Now, same time as that first kicked in, AIM also decided to not want to load. None of the shortcuts work, and I even tried doing Start>>Run to get it. No luck.
sooooo. you probably won't be able to help me (b/c that's the type of luck I've got), but any attempts at assistance would be much appreciated. thanks.

Hey swiz. That file is a driver for your sound card. Here's what I would do.

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Click Start>Settings>Control Panel and then double click on System.
Click the Device Manager tab.
Click the little + sign next to Sound, video and game controllers
Remove each item in that category one by one by clicking on the item and then clicking Remove.
Shut down and restart normally. Win98 will automatically reinstall your sound related drivers.

Cheers.
