[topic="topic=189947"]http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/189947/i-think-my-computer-is-infected-can-you-help/[/topic]

Hi Guys

Garmanma was previously helping me with a possbile problem I have, and he has now asked me to post it in the hijack log. I have tried to include the link above to show what was done up until now including the error messages I have previously had. Hope its accessible and helps.

Just to add that Norton is no longer displaying the 'Suspiciou MH690' has been blocked from attacking my computer since Garmanma ran a few things.

My logs are posted below.

Thanks for any help and peace of mind you can give me.

Linda

Hi Tea

Thanks for your reply. Dont worry about the delay. I know you guys are volunteers and I am just happy for the help you provide.

I'm sorry but I cant tell whether I need help or not now, I still feel my computer is running slow but I have stopped getting messages up that I was before. Even when turning my machine on, I feel it takes ages to actually just start up. Have I got too many processes running at startup? If so, can I avoid or remove the ones I dont need? Anyway sorry to go on, but I have ran the log you wanted me to and posted it below. Maybe this will help speed up at bit.
Many thanks for your help.
Linda

Hi Linda,

Couple of things to do, and you'll get a ton of speed back.

First you should know that you're actually doing more harm than good by running 2 Anti Virus programs. (Norton and Avast!) When you do this both programs compete for resources, and the end result is neither does it's best and can cause system instability. I recommend that you choose the one you want to keep, update it, disable or uninstall the other one, and use it as an on demand only scan occasionally.

The following are not malware, but fixing them with HijackThis will improve your system's speed. None are necessary at startup, and may be started manually at any time. This is up to you. :)

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

R3 - URLSearchHook: SweetIM For Internet Explorer - {BC4FFE41-DE9F-46fa-B455-AAD49B9F9938} - C:\Program Files\Macrogaming\SweetIMBarForIE\toolbar.dll (file missing)

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer a time or two and see if it's much better. :) Let me know how you come out.

Thanks,
tea

Hi Tea

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I have run what you suggested and uninstalled Avast. I have to say that my computer certainly came up faster on reboot. Thanks very much for helping with this. I am glad to hear it wasnt malware that was affecting my computer.

Can I just check this with you though. Since starting this top (previously with garmanma), I now have the following icons on my desktop.

Malwarebytes Anti Malware
ATF Cleaner
SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition
HJT Install
Hi Jack This
dds

Should I be continuing to use some of these periodically. Or should I delete these from my computer?

I have not run any of them again since I put them on as only run what I was told to by you and Garmanma.

Once again ,any thanks for your help and I await to hear from you with the above.

Linda

P.S. Put something into your donation pot, its not much but just as a thanks.

Hi Linda,

You're most welcome, and thank you very much. :)

I would choose either MBAM, or SAS....whichever you like best. My personal opinion goes in favor of MBAM.
Keep ATF Cleaner.
Do away with DDS and the HJT install, but keep HijackThis proper, just in case you need it in the future.

I would scan once a week or so with MBAM, and run ATF Cleaner once or twice a week, especially if you're on the web a lot.

Hope this helps, and take care!

Hi Tea

Thanks, I have deleted the programmes you said and will run MBAM and ATF cleaner each week.

Can I just check though. The ATF cleaner, should I tick all boxes as files to delete? I have only used it the once and was specifically told what boxes to box before.

Sorry to hold you back.

Thanks once again,

Linda

You're not holding me back. :)

I always select all when I use it, for IE. I use Firefox as my default browser though, and I do choose specific options for that. It comes down to what you want to keep.....for example the form filling information, or saved passwords. Just untick what you want to keep.
