hello, I have run the Stopzilla half a dozen times and of course I'm still having issues so therefore I am following your protecol to post here the DDS.txt file and attach the other.
This problem popped up a few days ago..
getting random pop up adverts
very slow computer
my Outlook Express keeps trying to compact unsuccessfully with every email in my Sent Mail box having disappeared and all my Inbox mail going back to Sept 9, 08..
The computer freezes occasionally and I have to reboot and wait forever for it to boot up.
please advise, thank you very much!

here's the contents of the DDS.txt file:

Hello Coconut and welcome to Bleeping Computer,

1. Please download GooredFix and save it to your Desktop.
  • Select "2. Fix Goored" by typing 2 and pressing Enter.
  • Make sure all instances of Firefox are closed at this point.
  • Type y at the prompt and press Enter again.
  • A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredLog.txt).
Note: If you receive a message saying that GooredFix needs your system to be restarted, please close all applications and reboot your system. Please also allow any registry changes that may be prompted by any of your security programs.

2. Please download ComboFix from one of the locations below, and save it to your Desktop.

Double click the ComboFix icon to run it.
If ComboFix askes you to install the Recovery Console, please do so..
The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode, in case your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. This allows us to help you.
Once the Recovery Console is installed, continue with the malware scan.

Note: Make sure not to click ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze.

Please post the log from ComboFix (can also be found as C:\ComboFix.txt) in your next reply.

If you have any questions along the way, STOP and ask them before proceeding !!

Greetings,
Thunder

hello Thunder!
Many thanks for your prompt reply to my query!
Following your direction, here is what I have done so far:
Download and run GooredFix, option 2
ComboFix with Recovery Console
logs to follow...
I have some confusion as to whether the whole thing worked because I have McAfee Security Suite.. I disabled the script scanning and spyware scanning at the suggestion of Combofix.. at least I think that's what it was suggesting. Then at the end of the whole scanning process McAfee popped up several times requesting permission to allow Registry changes. I allowed them. Also after the 2nd reboot the Stopzilla popped up with a warning of "Catchme" which I ignored until such time as you could advise me.
Here are the logs:

Hello Coconut,

Let's clean up some more :

Open Notepad - don't use any other texteditor than Notepad or the script will fail !
Copy/paste the bold, blue text below into an empty notepad window:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/193159/darsma-seneka/
Collect::[9]
c:\windows\system32\ffkuz.dll
c:\windows\system32\bgl.exe
c:\windows\system32\opnooLDW.dll
File::
c:\windows\Tasks\ihujrbko.job
Driver::
Ntlstclr
Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=""

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Posted Image

This will start ComboFix again. Upon reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of the Combofix log in your next reply, as well as a fresh HijackThislog.

ComboFix has generated a zipped file at C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\[9]Submit@Date_Time.zip.
Before proceeding to the next step, please submit this file to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php?channel=9 :1. In the first window (Link to topic where this file was requested:) copy and paste this link :http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic193159
2. In the second window (Browse to the file you want to submit: ) browse to the C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\[9]Submit@Date_Time.zip file
3. Click the Send file button
Are you still having problems ?

Greetings,
Thunder

hiya Thunder.. have just received your directions.. which I will attempt to follow, you instruct me to post a "fresh hijackthis log".. I don't believe I have a Hijackthis log.. is that another malware program I am supposed to download after the first part of your instructions? I guess I'll see if I can find a Hijackthis downloadable program somewhere around here.. hope that works.
thank you,
coconut

Thunder:
Am I supposed to disable the System Guard, Computer & Files configuration, and Virus protection as well as script scanning? I did disable and and after I dropped the notepad file into the Combofix box I got some popups from McAfee.. saying: Potentially Unwanted Program: RemAdm-ProcLaunch171.. and MacAfee Data Backup (did I want to unblock that).. and then in the middle of the Combofix log report my computer when blue and said Windows had to shut down.. I should Disable Bios Memory Options or run in safe mode..
What in heavens name should I do now?
run the whole process again?
What do I need to disable before I start?
What protection should I leave enabled?
Thanks!

Thunder I do not know where to find the download for Hijackthis.exe.
I did submit the zipped file as you suggested.
Thank you for helping me out.. you're saving my life... well my ability to work anyway!
It's almost 1 in the morning here so I have to sleep now, but I will be back on in about 5 hours.
oh yeah, should I reenable all my MacAfee security stuff?
peace

Hello Coconut,

Before we proceed, could you please verify something for me ?

Can you please, using Windows Explorer, verify if you can find a folder called C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Application Data\{E4224398-2642-4313-B1CA-E6B51332C74D} ?
If so, please Winzip or something similar to make a compressed copy of the folder,
and upload it to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php?channel=9, the way you did the previous zip file ?

Open Notepad and copy and paste the bold, blue text below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"Notification Packages"=hex(7):6d,73,76,31,5f,30,00,00

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as "all files" and place it on your Desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click Yes/OK.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Please download and install HijackThis v2.0.2
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
  • Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
  • Accept the license agreement by clicking the I Accept button.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save log to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
  • Click on Edit -> Select All then click on Edit -> Copy to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and paste the log in your next reply.
  • Do NOT[/color] have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Still having problems ?

Greetings,
Thunder

Hello Coconut,

Lookes like you have the newest Goored variant.

1. Please delete your current GooredFix copy from your Desktop,
and download the latest updated version.
Run the new version and please post the log it produces,
as well as a fresh DDS log.

2. You can remove all used tools and folders created in the process.
To remove ComboFix :
Go to Start > Run, and copy and paste next command in the field:ComboFix /u
Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /u
Then press Enter.
This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, restore your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

3. Your JavaVM is also out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update11.
  • Scroll down to where it says The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.
  • Click the Download button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: Accept License Agreement
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe) and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Are you still having problems ?

Greetings,
Thunder

Thank you!

Glad we could help, Coconut

Looks like you're good to go now.

Please read this Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks.
To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place
and/or Grinlers tutorial on how malware is hidden and installed
