Hello Bleeping computer. Earlier today my computer was fine, but somehow I find myself troubled because after searching for PSP anime downloads. My Norton Security starting acting up. It kept disabling auto protect, and a red balloon kept popping up that windows firewall was disabled. At first I did not understand. I did a quick Norton scan and found 3 trojans and had it removed. Thought my troubles was over but guess not. I find myself with this sucker (DESKTOP IMAGE)I also have Pop ups occasionally. Anyway long story short Antivius 2009 may have disabled my security system and is now trying to attack my computer.

Here is the Hijack Log:

Hi,

I see you have Viewpoint installed...
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
Then, * Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

Hi,

This is much better. Almost done.

Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{1E8A6170-7264-4D0F-BEAE-D42A53123C75}]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"="wbsys.dll"

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Then, * Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

everything looks great. Nortons auto protect is back up, and in the green. No Random pop Ups.

My only concern this this > http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/4751/desktop11gr1.jpg

I am not sure if Windows Virus detection was "not monitored" before? Im thinking maybe Norton is the software that will monitor itself? If so, then is that fine as is?

Yes, Norton monitors itself, but should be recognised in the Security Center. However, it appears that you are running an uncommon version of Norton, so that may explain why it's not listed as monitored in the Security Center.
Click the "Change the way Security Center alerts me" on the left in Security Center and uncheck Virus Protection.

Glad I could help.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Edit: @ comment below:

Hi,

Yea its the Norton 90day trail. lol

Once the trial has expired, I suggest you uninstall Norton again and install a free Antivirus instead (look in my signature below under Antivirus for the ones I recommend), or you keep Norton, but then purchase a license.
This is important, because when a trial expires and you don't purchase it, then it won't protect you either agains newest threats.

And you're most welcome
