Frequently, when installing a new application, Spybot will pop up a message that says, "Spybot has detected an important registy change. Do you want to allow the change?" I've assumed the change was due to the new application and have always allowed it.....with no detrimental effect to this point. AM I doing the right thing? With previous versions of Spybot I never got that message, it started a while back when I updated.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom804,

This is Spybot's realtime protection kicking in. You should allow changes marked if you are expecting them to happen. For instance, if you were installing an update to Firefox that will often add/change registry entries and Spybot will pick this up.

If the window pops up and you are not expecting it then Google the information and then make a decision. Most times these windows pop up when you are not expecting them something is trying to hop into your PC uninvited.
