I got a Windows Vista - Home Premium notebook. I have been running into problems of Bluescreen error. I have been advised to do a memory diagnostic test. Do not know if I got to back up files before doing the memory test. Please advise.

Thank you.

Backing up your files is a good idea, but it is not necessary to do so before running a memory diagnostic. The diagnostic scans the RAM not the files on the hard drive, so your data should be unaffected.

a memory diagnostic test is going to check your memory but it cant damage your files (as DJBPace07 has now informed me ).

but knowing you are having computer problems already, it wouldnt be a bad idea to back up

then you wont have to have any worries

This depends on how valuable your data is to you. Worst case is that your system won't boot and you'll have to pay a pro a lot of money to recover your data. Back it up now - while you can - and before you've gotta pay to have it done!

FWIW - I lost 3 years of work to a bad hard drive a couple of years ago - this included my wedding photo's!!!
The only reason I'm still alive (the wife would've killed me) is that I forgot to delete the wedding photos from the camera!
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
