Hi slubby and welcome to Bleeping.

You have a particularly nasty little blighter there which requires a complicated fix. Before we start though, can I ask you to show me everything running at startup please. You're running a selective startup in msconfig and I wish to satisfy myself you're not hiding anything malicious from view.

Click on Start | Run and type MSConfig in the 'Run' box. When the System Configuration Utility opens, click on the 'Startup Tab' and make sure there is a checkmark beside each entry. Ensure the 'General Tab' has the "normal startup" option checked.
REBOOT when asked to by Windows to complete any change and post a fresh log for me in THIS thread.

Lets see if we can show the Experts up at McAfee then.

First of all I'd like you to disable the real-time protection provided by Spyware Doctor incase it gets in the way of our fix. This can usually be done by right clicking the system tray icon and selecting the relevant option to disable that feature.

Step 1

Download Dellater.zip from here and unzip it to your System32 folder (C:\Windows\System32\).

Download Windows-XP-Prefetch-Clean-And-Control.exe from here.

Copy the below steps to notepad, close Internet Explorer and disconnect from the internet once you've familiarised yourself with rebooting into Safe Mode.

Step 2

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.

Run the above prefetch program to purge the prefetch folder.
You will get the "first time" pop-up. Click OK.
Select either the Recommended or Default option radio button
Click the "Set Prefetch Parameters" tab.
Click the "Clean Prefetch Folder Now" tab.

Step 3

Go to Start |Run and type Dellater.exe c:\windows\system32\fservice.exe <--Note the space between .exe and C:\

You should get a pop-up:
"File Marked for Deletion After Reboot
c:\windows\system32\fservice.exe"

Do the same for each of these files:

Dellater.exe c:\windows\system\sservice.exe
Dellater.exe c:\windows\system32\wininv.dll
Dellater.exe c:\windows\system32\winkey.dll
Dellater.exe c:\windows\winlogon.exe
Dellater.exe c:\windows\system32\addby32.exe

Step 4

Reboot into Safe Mode again.
Don't worry about the pop-up message that it can't find fservice.exe, you'll be fixing that in a minute.

The above files should be gone and not recreated by the trojan. Note that winlogon.exe WILL exist in directories besides C:\windows. The winlogon in C:\windows was a trojan. The other winlogon.exe's are legitimate.

Run HijackThis again and place a check before the following entries:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\fservice.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdwareAlert] C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert\adwarealert.Exe -boot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iexplore.exe] C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [addby32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\addby32.exe
O16 - DPF: {22A88341-AFCB-45F0-A856-C2BAE74F878E} (InstallX Class) - http://www.20x2p.com/e62e4327/enter.cab
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/06d89e8e5bacda...ip/RdxIE601.cab
O16 - DPF: {5E8FD788-C323-4357-AB76-7CBCEFBA573C} (SpyBouncer.SBDownloader) - http://www.spybouncer.com/downloader.ocx

Close ALL OPEN WINDOWS/BROWSERS and click Fix Checked

Step 5

Delete the following folder in bold:

C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert

Then open Notepad, (Start | Run, type in Notepad)
Copy ALLthe bold text in the quote box below to notepad.
Click File | Save As
Change the Save as type to *All Files*
Save it to your desktop as fix.reg

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{5Y99AE78-58TT-11dW-BE53-Y67078979Y}]

Double-click Fix.reg and confirm you wish to add the contents to the registry when prompted.

Step 6

Reboot into normal Windows mode.
(Windows will probably take a bit longer to load due to the prefetch folder repopulating but should speed up on the next reboot or two).

Run hijackthis again to check the F2 entry has now gone.

Check the registry to be sure the explorer key is not back again under the policies key.
Click Start | Run and type regedit and press Enter.
Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies

There should be no 'explorer' subkey present.

Check your system to make sure that above deleted files are no longer in existence anywhere (except winlogon.exe but there should be no winlogon.exe in c:\windows).

Step 7

Run an online virus scan from any of the following locations:

Kasperskey Online
RAV Online
Trend Micro (Europe)

Step 8

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log. :flowers:

Should I ask McAfee for a job?

That's a clean log apart from this one which you missed:

O16 - DPF: {7D40ADF2-AD68-4959-ACEC-DA96BF5E6EB7} (SpyBouncer.SBDownloader) -http://spywareremover.spybouncer.com/downloader.ocx

We don't want any rogue anti-spyware programs stealth installing so fix that entry with HJT please.

As far as Anti-Virus recommendations are concerned. If you want a free solution, I suggest AVG7 Free Edition. I consider this far superior to McAfee any day of the week.

However, if you want the ultimate in detection I suggest the commercial based NOD32 which I myself can vouch for.

Now that you're clean again, please follow these simple steps to keep yourself safe and secure in the future.

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and renable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and renable system restore here:

Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

or

Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from the tutorial above.

Clean out ALL Temp Files

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1: Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the 'Delete Files' button and put a checkmark in 'Delete Offline Content'. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so don't be alarmed if it takes a while.

Finally, and definitely the MOST IMPORTANT step, click on the following tutorial and follow each step listed there:

Simple and easy ways to keep your computer safe and secure on the Internet
