Hi,
First I'd like to thank you for your help in advance. My computer started acting strange a week or two ago. I have McAfee running and it caught and deleted a trojan around that time, I think it was win32.trojan-gen. Yesterday morning McAfee site advisor warned me that it had just shut down an attack site. I have been having serious problems since that time. I was getting chkdsk requests (and still am) when using firefox and when using certain spyware detectors. It seemed that McAfee itself was infected, scanning was disabled. I was unable to access mcafee.com, norton.com, and most other anti-virus sites. Soon I was unable to access the internet at all. Then my computer crashed. I borrowed another computer & downloaded avast. After 3 tries, I got windows to boot up. I installed avast and did a full scan and found the following trojans and adware: load(1).exe, mailswitch.ocx, msiconf.exe, senekafd6d.tmp, senekaptqouiff.dll, winsinstall(1).exe, winvsnet.tmp, & ~.exe. I deleted these, uninstalled McAfee, ran A2, adaware, & spybot. I uninstalled all of those and installed and ran Kaspersky free trial edition. Kaspersky found a bunch of vulnerablilties in adobe, flash, java, & quicktime. I fixed these. Kaspersky did not find any trojans, adware, or viruses. I am able to access all internet sites again. I am still randomly getting chkdsk errors though, for awhile I was getting redericted to other sites when in IE and firefox keeps resseting it self to the welcome page with two tabs, even when I reset my homepage (homepage just dissapears when I reopen firefox). I am running bitdefender now and it keeps finds and failing to remove generic.peed.eml.001E8578. Thank you again for any help you may provide.

Sorry to be posting again so soon, but I think I may have gotten rid of all my problems, the biggest of which were vundu and seneka. I'm just looking for confirmation that I am clean and I will be on my way. I ran another DDS and added it here.
Thanks

Hello Brian1971 and welcome to Bleeping Computer,

Not clean yet, I'm afraid

1. Please download GooredFix and save it to your Desktop.
  • Select "2. Fix Goored" by typing 2 and pressing Enter.
  • Make sure all instances of Firefox are closed at this point.
  • Type y at the prompt and press Enter again.
  • A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredLog.txt).
Note: If you receive a message saying that GooredFix needs your system to be restarted, please close all applications and reboot your system. Please also allow any registry changes that may be prompted by any of your security programs.

2. Please download ComboFix from one of the locations below, and save it to your Desktop.

Double click the ComboFix icon to run it.
If ComboFix askes you to install the Recovery Console, please do so..
The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode, in case your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. This allows us to help you.
Once the Recovery Console is installed, continue with the malware scan.

Note: Make sure not to click ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze.

Please post the log from ComboFix (can also be found as C:\ComboFix.txt) in your next reply. :)

If you have any questions along the way, STOP and ask them before proceeding !!

Greetings,
Thunder

Hello Brian1971,

Open Notepad and copy and paste the bold, blue text below in it:@ECHO OFF
IF EXIST log.txt DEL log.txt
ECHO Deleting folders>>log.txt
FOR %%I in (
"c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\local settings\application data\{2337010f-ceb8-456f-a1ca-fc67053b60b9}") DO (
IF EXIST %%I (
RD /S /Q %%I
IF EXIST %%I (
ECHO %%I not deleted>>log.txt
) ELSE (
ECHO %%I deleted>>log.txt)
) ELSE (
ECHO %%I not found>>log.txt))
START NOTEPAD.EXE log.txt

Save this as del.bat. Choose to save as "all files" and place it on your Desktop.
Doubleclick on it and post the content of the log file that opens in your next reply.

et's clean up some more :

Open Notepad - don't use any other texteditor than Notepad or the script will fail !
Copy/paste the bold, blue text below into an empty notepad window:File::
c:\windows\system32\drivers\gpicayn.sys
c:\windows\Tasks\jqlrrxub.job
Driver::
zugogq
Reglock::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{5ED60779-4DE2-4E07-B862-974CA4FF2E9C}]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{ea57a82b-ebd6-45d5-bd96-7832a75335dc}]
Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{5ED60779-4DE2-4E07-B862-974CA4FF2E9C}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\CLSID\{ea57a82b-ebd6-45d5-bd96-7832a75335dc}]

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. Upon reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of the Combofix log in your next reply, as well as a fresh DDS log.

Still having problems ?

Greetings,
Thunder

Thunder,
I did everything as requested. Hopefully everything is fine now, I really appreciate the help. If I am clean now, is it OK to connect my external drive and thumbnail drive? Would I be able to scan them before I might run into more problems? or should I just avoid them?

Hello Brian1971,

I'm missing the contents of the del.bat log,
but it looks like your logs are fine now.

Just make sure all of your security programs are well updated before connecting any external drives,
and scan them upon connection.

You can remove all used tools and folders created in the process.
To remove ComboFix :
Go to Start > Run, and copy and paste next command in the field:ComboFix /u
Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /u
Then press Enter.
This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, restore your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

No more problems ?

Greetings,
Thunder

Glad we could help, Brian

Please read this Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks.
To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place
and/or Grinlers tutorial on how malware is hidden and installed
