Hello and happy new year!

I copied pictures on a USB flash drive from a friend's computer, and it seems I got whatever trojan it was infected with. AVG poped up saying the file c:\documents\user\Local Settings\Temp612.exe was infected with trojan Backdoor.Generic10.AGJY.

I deleted a file autorun.inf on the USB drive, deleted cookies and temp files on my computer, ran spybot, malwarebyte's anti malware, AVG and superantispyware. Spybot found Win32.Agent.yvr and it deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TSoft.

Now everytime I restart my computer AVG pops up with the same trojan warning but for a different file.

Thanks for your help!

Here is the DSS.txt file:

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Hello,

Thanks for looking at this! After my first post I ran more online scans and malwarebyte's antimalware, which I think got rid of everything, but I'd like to be sure of that.

Here's the latest DDS log:

Hello.

It looks clean.

I see that you are running more than one antivirus program, Sophos, and AVG, (and I see traces of Symatec). It is not recommended that you do so. In addition to wasting resources, the programs may detect virus signatures in the other and cause false positives. The different drivers used by the programs can cause crashes.

Please uninstall them until you are only running one antivirus using Add/Remove Programs.

Take a new DDS.txt log after.

With Regards,
The Panda

Hello,

Thanks for looking at my log!
The Sophos antivirus was the online scan I ran, I uninstalled it. I uninstalled symantec about a year ago and there's nothing in add/remove programs, I guess these are just left overs... I looked at the registry and removed whatever said symantec though.

Here's the last DDS log:

Hello.

From the looks of your logs, MalwareBytes took care of the infection.

Unless there are any problems right now, we can reset the system restore and you are good to go.

Set New System Restore Point
Now you should set a Restore Point to prevent possible reinfection from an old one. Some of the malware you picked up could have been saved in System Restore. Since System Restore is a protected directory, tools cannot access it to delete these bad files, which sometimes can reinfect your system. Setting a new restore point after cleaning your system will help prevent this and enable your computer to "roll-back" to a clean working state.

The easiest and safest way to do this is:
  • Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click System Restore.
  • Choose the radio button marked Create a Restore Point on the first screen then click Next. Give the Restore Point a name then click Create.
  • Then, click on Start > Run and type:
    cleanmgr
  • Click OK > More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.
Preventing Malware Infection in the Future
Please take some time to look at the following links, giving some advice and suggestions for preventing future infections: For general slowness problems that you may have, take a look at Slow Computer/browser? It May Not Be Malware. Read How to use the Startup Database to identify and disable uneeded processes and increase the amount of available resources.

Do you have any further questions or concerns?

With Regards,
The Panda

Thanks a lot for the help! I'll try to not copy files from an infected computer in the future
