hello everyone.. I've joined a moment ago.. really interesting site this one is..

Well, I'm here because I need help.. I dont know what have I installed and by doing this, it installed an annoying search bar (which i've unabled for the moment)
Now, in Favourites, I have a lot of weird links that I can't get rid of.. Also, once in a while, it shows me another bar, at the bottom of the page.. I've tried going to the site, and as soon i tried to download the uninstal file I got an antivirus warning.. (I didnt want to take risks, after being the last 2 days trying to get rid of some virus that made a mess of my computer....)

Anywho...Here's my log, after using spybot and ad-aware....

Hello silvina and welcome to the BC forums. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Remove installed programs using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel:
  • Click Start.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • Look in the Currently installed programs box for each program listed below and if it is there:
  • Click on it to select it.
  • Click Change (or Change/Remove) button.
  • If you are prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click Yes.
Messenger Plus! 3
Download CCleaner and install it but do not run it yet.

Step #2

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #3

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.mcrypbqddo.com/3dlNAJujyT5hcXGJ...pzy1gLXjYm.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Archivos de programa\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [6t5ibl8b] C:\WINNT\system32\6t5ibl8b.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [clock platform dvd audio] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Datos de programa\NEW SETUP CLOCK PLATFORM\2Army.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [strmsnnrs] msnmcgrs.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [strmsnnrs] msnmcgrs.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Uoac] C:\Documents and Settings\chicas yacante\Datos de programa\tiar.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LOUDDRIVE] C:\DOCUME~1\CHICAS~1\DATOSD~1\DUPEHI~1\The Beep.exe

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #4

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\Archivos de programa\Messenger Plus! 3\ <--folder
C:\WINNT\system32\6t5ibl8b.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Datos de programa\NEW SETUP CLOCK PLATFORM\ <--folder
C:\Documents and Settings\chicas yacante\Datos de programa\tiar.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\chicas yacante\Datos de programa\DUPEHI~1\ <--folder (a folder whose name begins with DUPEHI)

Now search for these files and delete all instances. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.msnmcgrs.exe
Step #5

Start CCleaner and click on the Run Cleaner button in the lower right-hand corner. When it is finished close CCleaner.

Step #6

Reboot normally and run at least 2 of the following on-line virus scans:Trend Micro Housecall
BitDefender On-Line Virus Scan
Panda ActiveScan
eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner
Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

Step #7

AdAware SE

Download, install, update, configure and run a scan with Ad-aware SE:
  • Download and Install AdAware SE Personal, keeping the default options. However, some of the settings will need to be changed before your first scan.
  • Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE.
  • Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.
  • Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window:
    • In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
      • Under Safety:
        • Automatically save log-file
      • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
      • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
    • Under Definitions:
      • Prompt to update outdated definitions - set the number of days
  • Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green:
    • Under Driver, Folders & Files:
      • Scan Within Archives
    • Under Select drives & folders to scan:
      • choose all hard drives
    • Under Memory & Registry: all green
      • Scan Active Processes
      • Scan Registry
      • Deep Scan Registry
      • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
      • Scan my Hosts file
  • Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:
    • Under Shell Integration:
      • Move deleted files to recycle bin
    • Under Logfile Detail Level: all green
      • include addtional object information
      • DESELECT - include negligible objects information
      • include environment information
    • Under Alternate Data Streams:
      • Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
      • Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT
  • Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:
    • Under ‘Scanning Engine’:
      • Unload recognized processes during scanning
      • Scan registry for all users instead of current user only
    • Under ‘Cleaning Engine’:
      • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
    • Under Log Files:
      • Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
      • Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
      • Please do not check: Include Module list in logfile
  • Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.
  • Click ‘Start’
  • Choose 'Perform Full System Scan'
  • DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
  • Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.
  • If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window
  • Save the log file when it asks and then click ‘Finish’
  • REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found.
Step #8

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Hi silvina. Your log is clean. Good job! How are things running? Any problems?

The only thing I see left to take care of is that it appears there are 2 anti-virus applications running on the system. It is not recommended to have 2 of these applicaitons active at the same time because they can conflict with each other and cause various file access problems. I recommend that you choose the one you like the best (they are both good products) and remove the other one.

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
* CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Next, let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 3 free ones available for personal use:and a good antivirus like the one you are currently using. It is critical to have both a firewall and an anti-virus application and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit monthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scanners
weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Have a safe and happy computing day!

Yes you're right there, I used to have Norton Antivirus and AVG installed.. and I always got the virus alerts at the same time, it was a mess. A few days ago I got a virus; neither Norton nor AVG was able to get rid of it, so I've uninstalled Norton and installed Kaspersky instead, it worked :flowers: ..shame is a 1-month trial version. I'll have to remove it when the month is over :trumpet:

Thanks again OldTimer.. :inlove: xox Silvina.

You're very welcome silvina. I'm glad that we could help.

If you are looking for a good free antivirus application here are 2 free ones. You are familiar with AVG. I myself use the Avast and love it:Now that your issues have been resolved I will close this topic. If you need it reopened for this same issue then please PM me. If you have any new issues in the future then please start a new topic.

Cheers.

Keep on computing!
