You need one good firewall. The one that comes with Microsoft Windows XP is not one that can be considered adaquate. Get one of these others instead and after you install it, disable Windows firewall.

Freeware AntiSpyware and Security Programs

Software firewalls with freeware versions
Zone Alarm: http://www.zonealarm.com/
Sygate: http://www.sygate.com/

You then need ONE resident anti-virus program. AVG is good, and it's free!

Antivirus programs - freeware

AVG: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

You then need several of these anti-malware programs. Use as many as you can tolerate, but make sure the Microsoft Beta is among the ones you choose. In addition to the ones listed Yahoo Toolbar has a decent anti-spyware program built into it as well.

Anti-malware freeware

AdAware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Microsoft Antispyware Beta: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s...re/default.mspx
SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Spybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (Win XP and Win 2000):
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

After you download, install, update and run at least three anti-malware programs use at least two of the following web based anti-malware scans (Must use Internet Explorer for these as they use Axtive X to work)
Disable Windows Restore, as it will reinfest your computer with the malware you remove:

Web based online Antivirus and anti-malware scans:

Panda Activescan (IE only)
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co...n_principal.htm

Trend Micro antivirus and malware scan:
http://housecall-beta.trendmicro.com/en/st...orp.asp?id=scan

Etrust Anti-virus web scanner
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner
http://www.kaspersky.com/service?chapter=161739400#betatest

This will let you block programs as they open on the start menu. It's a bit annoying but......
Start Menu Program Control:

Reactivate System Restore after you are sure no malware survived.

Tanner0035,

Please post a new HJT log in the HJT forum here >
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Hij...alysis-f22.html

Your current log in this thread is in the wrong forum and is now buried with these
additional posts.
The only easy day was yesterday.

...some do, some don't; some will, some won't (WR)
