First, we were unable to download the Malwarebytes program (as was the case for many such programs when vundo was in control) on his PC, so we put it on another PC, saved it to a flash drive, and were able to load it on his PC from there.
Second, when we tried to update the program, the trojan kept us from running the update. We worked around this by running the original version of the software, which cleaned many infected files. That cleaned it enough that we were able to update the program, run the scan again, and find and clean more infected files.
