Hello

What is that gong sound? I've heard it before, but usually in connection with an error of some sort. However, recently, I've heard it a few times randomly. It doesn't seem to follow something specific that I'm doing (such as opening a file), i.e., I heard it yesterday, and the only thing I was doing was reading the posts on this website, and again this morning but I wasn't even connected to the internet or my email, though McAfee was running a scan at the time.

My Windows XP
Media Player Edition
McAfee Security Suite

I just cleaned up my computer that was infected with a virus; might it be related to that?

Does anybody recognize that gong?

Thank you!

Is someone watching Japanese fighting movies or reruns of that Gong show in the next room?? Just kidding>.

It may be that an indicator that an application is notifying you of something, perhaps an update. Next time look at the clock area when you hear it. You may see message balloon or a flashing icon.

LOL!

I don't see anything happening on my task bar when I hear that sound. I'm going to keep track of exactly what is going on anytime I hear it to see if there is a pattern or if something specific triggers it. I will report back.

Thank you for your help!
