I'm a newbie on here. HELP! My browser is automatically redirecting on sites suchas ebay.com, bankofamerica.com, usbank.com, pretty much all sites that require me to enter a password, they are redirecting to what LOOK like legit sites, but are in fact not. Anyway, to date I have run AVIRA full system scan, spybot scans, SuperAntiSpyware scans, malwarebytes antimalware scans an now hijackthis. I am at my wits end to get rid of this S*&#! it is driving me crazy. I know I could just install Firefox and probably not be bothered, but I want this stuff off my machine. My AVIRA has found Trojan CryptF.GEN and Trojan Crypt.ULPM.Gen, as well as the Trojan Smitfraud variant. The problem is that none of these programs have actually removed what is causing them. I have been able to quarantine, but when I look again, there's the same infection!

Here is my HJT log---please help!

Thanks! JOHN

Hello

Apologize for the delay in response we get overwhelmed at times but we are trying our best to keep up.
If you have since resolved the original problem you were having would appreciate you letting us know If not please perform the following below so I can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

Please update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, run full scan and save the report.

Then let's run Rsit:
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
Please post Mbam results and Rsit logs back here

Hi

please go to http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/ and scroll down (the downloaded programs are in alphabetical order) to:

Registry Search Tool

Download, unzip and run RegSrch.vbs
Copy and paste this numerical string into the dialog box: EMNLBYLC

After a while a prompt will come up. Click OK to write the results to wordpad/notepad and post the log which is generated. (if there are any results)

Post results of registry search tool and Malwarebytes' anti-malware report

Hi
  • Download OTMoveIt3 and save it to your desktop. Then run it.
  • Copy and paste the lines in the code box below into the input field at the bottom left corner:
    :services
    EMNLBYLC
  • Now click the red button that says MoveIt!
  • To the right, the results show up. Copy and paste them all into a notepad file and post the notepad file in your next reply.
How's your pc working now?

Computer seems to be running fine now that I got rid of Internet Explorer. I never heard anything back on here for several days, so I got rid of IE and got Firefox, so browser problem was worked around. I know whatever was wrong was still there, but at least everything was working OK. But, this morning, I had to try four times to get the Computer to turn on. It would start to bootup, then go to a black screen and stay there. I don't know what that's all about. Anyway, here's the result from me doing what you said.

========== SERVICES/DRIVERS ==========
Service EMNLBYLC stopped successfully.
Service EMNLBYLC deleted successfully.

Hi

Please open HiJackThis and choose do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below:

O16 - DPF: {8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93} (Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0) - http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=23100

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Select your Platform: "Windows".
  • Select your Language: "Multi-language".
  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
To Clear the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) cache, do this:
  • Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  • Double-click the Java icon.
    -The Java Control Panel appears.
  • Click "Settings" under Temporary Internet Files.
-The Temporary Files Settings dialog box appears.
  • Click "Delete Files".
-The Delete Temporary Files dialog box appears.
-There are three options on this window to clear the cache.
    • Delete Files
    • View Applications
    • View Applets
  • Click "OK" on Delete Temporary Files window.
-Note: This deletes all the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the cache.
  • Click "OK" on Temporary Files Settings window.
  • Close the Java Control Panel.
You can also view these instructions along with screenshots here.

I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto-updating for the Viewpoint Manager -- the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.
I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. In Add or Remove Programs, highlight >>Viewpoint component<< , click Remove.
4. Do the same for each Viewpoint component.

Reboot computer and post a fresh hijackthis log back here

Hi

Looks clean, great job!

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows XP or Vista then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and re-enable system restore here:

    Windows XP System Restore Guide
Re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
  • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.
  • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  • Install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is a new and powerful anti-malware tool. It is
totally free but for real-time protection you will have to pay a small one-time fee. Tutorial on installing & using this product can be found below:

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Setup Guide

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Scanning Guide
  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safetyStand Up and Be Counted ---> Malware Complaints <--- where you can make difference!

The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.

Also, please read this great article by Tony Klein So How Did I Get Infected In First Place

Happy surfing and stay clean!

Thank you for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. Everything appears to be running great. I think I will keep the Firefox instead of IE since it appears to have less problems. Once again, thank you very much! :-)

Regards,

JOHN
