I have a compaq presario sr2013wm desktop, and I did a reinstall of windows off the recovery partition. I did this because my puter has been steadily slowing down, for the past month or so. After running numerous av scans and spyware scans and coming up empty, I decided to do this. When I booted the puter back up after the install everything worked fine, until I started doing all of the updates for windows and the ones that hp offered. I have ended up with a slower machine than before. I tried to go in to google earth and everything freezes up, I couldn't even get task manager to start so I could kill the process. I waited for 10min or so then just killed the power, to the machine. I tried two different programs that tested system stability and they both did the same thing . I booted into safe mode and ran my av and my spyware programs and I still come up empty handed. Do any of you folks have any Ideas about what could be wrong, or what I can do to fix this.

Thanks poonstang90lx

This is an unusual problem and you've done most of the usual troubleshooting tests.
The most significant thing is that your system worked fine as soon as you restored it - but after updating it started to act up.

Check in your Event Viewer for errors. Go to Start...Run...and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Click on the System log in the left hand pane and check the right hand pane for errors.
Do the same thing with the Application log.

Also, check your Device Manager to see if your devices are present and operating properly. Look for any red x's or yellow !'s. To do this, go to Start...Run...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

If none of this reveals an issue, then I'd suggest:
Restoring again, then updating all of the HP stuff first.
Then test your system to see if it works properly.
If so, then update to Service Pack 2 (not Service Pack 3) and test again.
Then update all your HP stuff again and test again
Then update to SP3 and test again
Then update the HP stuff again (and test again)
Finally get the remaining Windows Updates one by one - and test after each one.

This should allow you to isolate where the problem is coming from - and with that info we can proceed with other suggestions.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
