I've been trying to fix my blue desktop problem for a day now and i took a look in the registry and two registry's are missing :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\active_desktop

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\system

the only Key in that path is

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Can someone tell me why those two paths arent there?

And ive tried the

1. Right-click your desktop.
2. Select Properties.
3. Click the Desktop tab..
4. Click the Customize Desktop button.
5. Click the Web tab.
6. Make sure the 'Lock desktop items' checkbox is deselected.
7. Click the OK button.
8. Click the Apply button.

it isnt working at all.

Hi, here's another. If this one doesn't do it then you need to make a topic in the XP forum at the top.

This step involves making changes in the registry. Always back up your registry before making any changes. If you are not familiar with working in the registry, then you should NOT attempt to make any changes on your own.
Or use ERUNT.
Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Click on the link below:

Scroll down to #128 and click "Desktop and Screensaver Tabs" in the right column. Go to File, choose "Save page as" All Files and save desktoptab.reg to your desktop. Double-click on that file and choose "Yes" to merge it into the registry when prompted. Once you get a successful message delete the file and reboot.
