hello, i'm working on my daughters presario 557cl laptop. the unit will not boot, power light, and battery light flash about 6 times really fast pause and flash again. when i press the power button, the fan runs for a second then stops, i have tried a different power supply, removed memory, hard drive, no avail.
what is weird is, i thought the battery was bad, they come with a partial charge, systems started no problem. did some updates ,check the meter for battery life, said it was low so i plugged in the a\c jack and the it went blank. flashing lights again.
took it apart, checked power jack, wires have ohms from jack to board plug, no noticable problems on board { burns } cleaned it up no avail. any help will do , thanks steve

The DC power jack in the back of the laptop is usually the first thing to go bad.

I'm going to throw this out here because I just finished with a Dell that had the same symptoms. The hard drive was froze solid. I didn't realize it until I put it in an enclosure and melted the enclosure.
So take the hard drive out and see if it boots

why won't my laptop work?

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
