Before you see my logfile, just to let you know, Ad-aware has detected VX2 on my system, and so I downloaded the Ad-aware VX2Cleaner. Every time I clicked to open it the Installer popped up for about a second then closed. I downloaded the Messenger Add-on from Ad-aware and that worked, so I think some program has detected what I was installing and turned it off. It also happened when I tried to install Spybot and Norton. Please Help!

Hello,

°Download AboutBuster.
Unzip AboutBuster in an own folder such as C:\AboutBuster.
Start AboutBuster.exe. Click OK, Update, Check For Update and download the updates if present.
Close aboutbuster now, because you may not run it yet, that's for later.
If You are getting an error when updating, please let me know first before you proceed with the next steps.

* Download CWShredder. Don't let it run yet!

* Download this regfix: HSfix
Unzip it and place it on your desktop, don't use it yet!

* Download LQfix.zip
Unzip it and save it to your desktop, don't use it yet!!

*It's better to print out these instructions out, because you have a lot of steps to take, so you have a better look on it and this page wouldn't be available all the time.

°First, we will make your hidden files and folders visible.
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

*Please reboot your system into SAFE MODE.
°To get into the Windows XP Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

*Start hijackthis and click scan and put a checkmark next to the following items:

First what didn't work:
-I don't know if this matters, but I had already installed and run CWShredder before I posted for help, and it didn't pick up anything, just thought I'd say that.
-"016 - DPF:" There were three of these files that you told me to fix, and hijackthis couldn't find them.
-C:\WINXP\System32\SCardClnt.exe, wouldn't let me delete because it was running, and wouldn't close.
-Same with C:\WINXP\System32\winupd.exe
-I couldn't find czpcayw.exe, CSBB, hab.exe, and ipdy.exe
-HSfix wouldn't open, it said "not a valid application" (it seemed like a valid Windows error, but I couldn't tell for sure
-TrendMicro was taking too long, especially since I have dialup and the comp randomly turns off about once an hour :thumbsup:

You probably can figure out most of that just by the logs, but I thought I should tell you anyway. What I noticed has been fixed is the about:blank, and the pop-ups. Poof! Gone. Thanks a bunch

Hi, thx for the feedback -- I'm going to answer your questions and give solutions one by one:

-"016 - DPF:" There were three of these files that you told me to fix, and hijackthis couldn't find them.

Yes, that is possible, maybe one or another scanner already deleted those before.

-I couldn't find czpcayw.exe, CSBB, hab.exe, and ipdy.exe

Yes, that's also possible, that's why I said: If still present. :thumbsup:

-HSfix wouldn't open, it said "not a valid application" (it seemed like a valid Windows error, but I couldn't tell for sure

That's odd, it's just a regfix. Did you unzip it first?

-TrendMicro was taking too long, especially since I have dialup and the comp randomly turns off about once an hour

So that mean you can't actually scan with any other scanner that take longer than 1 hour?
Try this: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
This one let you delete the files immediately when found -- if you leave the default settings.
So you don't have to wait untill the scan is finished to delete the files.

What I also suggest is next program: CCleaner
Install it and click Run Cleaner.

It Cleans the following:

* Internet Explorer Cache, History, Cookies, Index.dat.
* Recycle Bin, Temporary files and Log files.
* Recently opened URLs and files.
* Third-party application temp files and recent file lists (MRUs).
Including: Firefox, Opera, Media Player, eMule, Kazaa, Google Toolbar, Netscape, Office XP, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and more...

So I suggest you Run Ccleaner before you scan with ewido -- so ewido doesn't have to scan those files above you deleted with Ccleaner. So the scan wont take that long.

I also want you to check next:

It could be possible that this hijacker deleted some files, so check if the following are still present:

°Control.exe: Is in your C:\WINXP\system32. Download here when missing.

°Hosts: C:\WINXP\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC .Download here when missing.
Unzip hoster to an own folder, eg C:\Hoster
Start Hoster.exe, click 'Restore Original Hosts' and click OK. Close the program.

°Shell.dll: C:\WINXP\SYSTEM32 Download here when missing

°SDHelper.dll:
If you are using Spybot Search & Destroy, this hijacker can also delete SDHelper.dll.
Download SDHelper.dll.
Place the file in the Spybot Search & Destroy-folder. Most probably, this ist C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy

-C:\WINXP\System32\SCardClnt.exe, wouldn't let me delete because it was running, and wouldn't close.
-Same with C:\WINXP\System32\winupd.exe

Let's try this:

Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".

Now copy the next bold:

C:\WINXP\System32\SCardClnt.exe
C:\WINXP\System32\winupd.exe

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.
There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field.
If you expand it, these lines must be there together if the files are present!

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. Click YES
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

Your computer must reboot now.

When rebooted --

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [?inupd.exe] C:\WINXP\System32\winupd.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [winupd.exe] C:\WINXP\System32\winupd.exe
O23 - Service: Smart Card Client (SCardClnt) - Unknown owner - C:\WINXP\System32\SCardClnt.exe

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

* Go to start > run and type: sc delete SCardClnt <click OK>

* Reboot again and post a new hijackthislog.

Sorry it took so long to respond, I spent pretty much all day working on the ewido scan. Every time it got near 85% there was an error message "ewido needs to close now" and it closed down. I was pretty happy earlier, because the files that weren't opening started working after I first started an ewido scan, but now they just give the "sorry but ccleaner needs to close" message. Three other things that are going wrong:
-I tried the killbox thing, but I clicked on paste from clipboard and it wouldn't do it. I tried to paste manually then reboot but that didn't close them down.
-Every time the comp starts up, after the Windows XP Home Edition loading screen, and before it actually logs in to the computer, there's a black screen for about five minutes, where you can move the mouse around but nothing else. This has been happening since I first started fixing the comp with Ad-aware.
-Occasionally, I get error reports from LSA Shell Export (at least I'm pretty sure that's what its called) Then a notice pops up within a couple of minutes that says: "The system is closing down in 60 seconds" and it says it's initiated by NTAUTHORITY/SYSTEM. I think this has something to do with the fact that when I start the comp in safe mode, I can chose between two log-ins, mine and "administrator"
Anyway, I'm a little frustrated, but I hope you know what to do.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to say two things:
-I made sure that HSfix was unzipped, but it still didn't work
-All those files you mentioned were still on my computer, so I didn't have to install any of those components.

Hi, well we made some progress!

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [?inupd.exe] C:\WINXP\System32\winupd.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [winupd.exe] C:\WINXP\System32\winupd.exe
O23 - Service: Smart Card Client (SCardClnt) - Unknown owner - C:\WINXP\System32\SCardClnt.exe (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

*Go to start >run and type: services.msc and click OK
Scroll down in that list until you find the service Smart Card Client
Doubleclick on it. In the window that will appear, click on "Stop" (if not greyed out) and change the Startup Type to disabled.
Click apply and OK and close all open windows.

Check again if next one is really gone: C:\WINXP\System32\winupd.exe

Reboot and post back a fresh HijackThis log and I'll take another look.

I can't tell you what is causing those problems but when I do know is that you need to update your windows!!! So an update can maybe fix those error messages. So Visit asap http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to download and install all the updates and security patches, because your system is extremely vulnerable for the moment and malware can get installed without any problem!

I don't know if you have overinstalled win xp over another OS, because WINXP isn't a standard windir. Normally it must say Windows. Remember that this can also cause a lot of errors. When you install an OS it's always better to format it first.

I tried what you said to do for the SCard program and it worked, but the winupdt didn't at first. What I did was put the file in the recycle bin right when HijackThis was open, then clicked fix while it was in the bin, and it worked. Then I deleted it from the bin, and it isn't running anymore! :thumbsup:
Also, I did all the updates on windows update (all 19 critical ones :flowers: ) and then scanned with the Malicious Software Removal Tool and there were 15000 infected files, tho it couldn't fix them all and ewido isn't helping much :trumpet: .
I installed SpywareGuard, and I'm going to install the blaster, but I had two other questions.
-Where can I get another good Antivirus program to scan my computer(ewido keeps shutting down at 90%)?
-Where can I get a freeware active virus scanner, that's continually scanning while my comp is on (like spywareguard for viruses)?

Thanks

Still one item to check and fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Spooler SubSystem App] C:\WINDOWS\System32\spooIsv.exe

Can you also look if spooIsv.exe is in your system32-folder and delete it.
WATCH out here!! Don't delete the spooLsv.exe (spoolsv.exe) which is legit, you need to delete the spooIsv.exe (with the capital i in it)!!

AVG, Bitdefender OR Avast are good FREE antivirus.
Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give problems and decreases the reliability of it seriously!
Zonealarm, Kerio OR Sygate are FREE firewalls.

Can you tell me what files the antivirus couldn't delete? I need the name of the file and the folder where it is in.
Files that are present in quarantaine/restore/backup-folders from your antispywarescanners or ewido, that I don't need. You can delete them by opening the antispywaresoftware and choosing the quarantaine/backup or restore-option and delete everything that's in there.

I also don't need files that are present in the C:\System Volume Information-folder. That are your systemrestorepoints. To get rid of it, perform the following steps:

Disable your systemrestore.(note: this will delete all your system restore points and malware that were present in it).
How to disable system restore in XP
Reboot.. and after rebooting, enable it again, so a new systemrestorepoint will be made. A clean one now! :thumbsup:

So, after performing these steps, post a new hijackthislog together with the files that couldn't get deleted. :flowers:
