My IE isn't working. I try and open the browser or click a link and I get this message:

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORER.EXE; program not found

I also get this message when trying to open the .exe that's in the Program File. I've tried everything I can think of. Updated to IE 8.0beta, didn't work so I uninstalled it and tried to redownload 7.0, didn't work, I also can't uninstall 7.0, it's not an option in the add/remove programs. I did click a link yesterday before this happened and got that message error and then within five minutes, AVG popped up saying virus was found but that it had been healed and wiped. So I'm not sure if this has to do with my IE not working or not. BUt before all of this happened, I was getting redirected to different sites when browsing. I'd search for something and then click on the result and it would send me to either bottomdollar.com or it would say website does not exist, so I'd have to go back and click on the link again to get to the website. I've also had this thing where I'll be on a site with no ads or music and yet an ad will start playing over the speakers, and continue to play even when IE is exited. I've had a few trojans since the beginning of December but the AVG found and cleared/healed them but the problems persisted. So here's my HJT log below, help is appreciate:

EDIT: Just looked at the list, I see that McAfee is still on there, I uninstalled this ages ago, like almost a year and I still can't get it completely off my computer. Just in case someone wanted to point out that I had two anti-virus things running.

Hello. I am PropagandaPanda (Panda or PP for short), and I will be helping you.

Disable Realtime Protection
Antimalware programs can interfere with ComboFix and other tools we need to run. Please temporarily disable all realtime protections you have enabled. Refer to this page, if you are unsure how.

To disable AVG:
  • Please navigate to the system tray on the bottom right hand corner and look for this Posted Image sign.
  • Right click it-> select Quit Control Center.
  • A warning will pop up, click Yes
To disable McAfee Security Center:
  • Please navigate to the system tray and double-click the taskbar icon to open Security Center.
  • Click Advanced Menu (bottom mid-left).
  • Click Configure (left).
  • Click Computer & Files (top left).
  • VirusScan can be disabled in the right-hand module and set when it should resume or you can do that manually later on.
Download and Run ComboFix
If you have already run ComboFix, delete your copy and download a new one. If the computer in question is unable to download ComboFix, transfer it using a removable media (CDs, flash drive).

Download Combofix by sUBs from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.
Link 1, Link 2, Link 3
  • Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are not sure how.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe and follow the prompts. If you are using Windows Vista, right click the icon and select "Run as Administrator". You will not recieve the prompts below if you are not using Windows XP. ComboFix will check to see if you have the Windows Recovery Console installed.
  • If you did not have it installed, you will see the prompt below. Choose YES.
    Posted ImagePosted Image

  • When the Recovery Console has been installed, you will see the prompt below. Choose YES.
    Posted Image
  • When finished, ComboFix will produce a report for you. Please post the contents of the log (C:\ComboFix.txt).
Leave your computer alone while ComboFix is running. ComboFix will restart your computer if malware is found; allow it to do so.

In your next reply include:
-the ComboFix log
-a new HijackThis or DDS log

Please also tell me of any changes you have made to your computer since you started your topic.

With Regards,
The Panda

Hello incongruous.

Darn that infection is nasty. It made you open a malware downloader everytime you tried to start IE  .

Let's take care of that.

Please make sure your protection is disabled once again.

Run ComboFix with CFScript
We will run ComboFix again with a script.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are unsure how.
  • Open notepad (Start>Run>"notepad") and copy/paste the text in the box below into it:
    file::
    c:\windows\system32\xwr50594.dll
    c:\windows\system32\wr50594.dll
    c:\windows\system32\xa700193687.exe
    c:\windows\system32\xa700193656.exe
    c:\windows\system32\xa700115750.exe
    c:\windows\system32\xa700073484.exe
    c:\windows\system32\klomp.exe
    c:\windows\pss\dllhost.exeCommon Startup

    Dirlook::
    C:\f7ea1badde694f0db5a8db68835d81bd

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\image file execution options\iexplore.exe]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupfolder\C:^Documents and Settings^All Users^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^dllhost.exe]
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe. (This should be your desktop.)
    Posted Image
Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt". Post back with that log.

Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

With Regards,
The Panda

That's terrible  I'm glad that it's something though. Everyone else thought I just deleted my IE or something and didn't notice. Anyway, here's the new log:

Hello.

Download and run MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
If you already have MBAM installed, simply update and run a quick scan.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware setup and to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2

Refer to the steps given here on installing MalwareBytes, running the scan, and saving the log file (not on using File Assasin).
  • If you have trouble updating, try the other mirror download site.
  • Should the computer in question not be able update using the normal method download the update file from here, using another machine if needed. Simple double click the file to install the updates.
  • If MalwareBytes asks to reboot to remove certain items, do so right away.
Please include the scan logfile in your next reply.
---
Run DDS and post back DDS.txt.
--
Re-enable your protection.

Looks good  .

F-Secure Online Scan
Let's do one more scan.
This scan is for Internet Explorer only.
  • It is suggested that you disable security programs and close any other windows during the scan. While your security is disabled, please refrain from surfing on other sites. Refer to this page if you are unsure how.
  • Go to F-Secure Online Scanner
  • Follow the instructions here for installation.
  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Once the ActiveX installs, click Full System Scan
  • Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically. The scan will take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
  • Click the Show Report button and copy the entire report in your next reply.
  • Be sure to re-enable any security programs.
Please download and install an antispyware program:
Post a fresh HijackThis log please.

Any problems at this point? IE opens?

With Regards,
The Panda

IE's opening and working good. Only problem I'm having is with the F-Secure Online Scan, it won't run. I followed the intstructions and all that popped up was a blank window with one button but it was blank too so i let it go thinking it would scan, but for an hour it didn't do anything. And I never got the License Agreement pop up either. Java and Active X controls are enabled as well, so I don't know why it's not running.

Hello Jena.

Let's try ESET then. If it won't work, it's not a big problem.

Run ESET Online Scan
  • Please disable your realtime protection software before proceeding. Refer to this page if you are unsure how.
  • Please go to ESET OnlineScan (NOD32)
  • You will then see the Terms of Use, tick the check-box infront of YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Now click Start. If you see a "Security Warning" that asks if you want to install and run a file called "OnlineScanner.cab", click Yes.
  • Click Start. The online scanner will now prepare itself for running on your pc.
  • To do a full-scan, tick: Remove found threats and Scan potentially unwanted applications.
  • Press Scan. The Onlinescan will now start and scan your computer. Please be patient as this a while.
  • When the scan has finished, it will show a screen with two tabs "overview" and "details" and the option to get information or buy software, just close the window.
  • Click Start, then Run.... The the box that appears type with the quotes:
    "C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt"
  • The scan results will now open in Notepad
  • Click into the text area, right-click and chose select all. Right-click again and chose Copy.
  • Post back with the log.txt in your next reply.
Note: For Vista Users: Eset is compatible but Internet Explorer must be run as Administrator. To do this, right-click on the IE icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu.)

With Regards,
The Panda

Hello Jena.

Looks good.

View Point Program
Viewpoint Manager and Viewpoint Media Player are considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval, but does not have malicious effects. This changed from what we know in 2006 read this article.

I suggest you remove the program(s) through Add and Remove Programs.

Fix HijackThis Entries
Just some leftovers
  • Double click the HijackThis icon on your desktop.
  • Close all other open windows.
  • Select Do a System Scan Only.
  • Wait a few moments for the list to be compiled.
  • To the left of each entry you will see a check box. Check the box next to the following entries:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

If you no longer see some of the entries, skip them.
  • Close all open windows except HijackThis.
  • Click Posted Image and OK at the prompt.
  • The screen will clear itself.
  • Close out of HijackThis.

Uninstall ComboFix
Remove Combofix now that we're done with it.

  • Click on your Start Menu, then Run....
  • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Notice the space between the "x" and "/".

Uninstalling ComboFix will do the following:
  • Delete ComboFix and its components from your computer.
  • Delete other tools commonly used during the malware removal process.
  • Resets clock settings to standard format.
  • Hide file extensions and hidden/system files.
  • Clear System Restore cache and creates new restore point.
Preventing Malware Infection in the Future
Please take some time to look at the following links, giving some advice and suggestions for preventing future infections: For general slowness problems that you may have, take a look at Slow Computer/browser? It May Not Be Malware. Read How to use the Startup Database to identify and disable uneeded processes and increase the amount of available resources.

Thank you so much! Everything's running fine. Got rid of viewpoint and the HJT entries and read the following links. You've been very helpful. Thanks again!
