Hello, I am posting a HijackThis log to see if someone could please read it for me. I am not having to much of a terrible time with my computer, but someone was on here recently and had shown me something about Antivirus 2009 and I dont know yet if I have it. Also this person likes to just run along and go to websites that arent to trustworthy, so I am just wondering if this computer is clean!! Edited: I guess it isnt clean  I dont know why these are on here, I have free AVG, FREE SuperAntiSpyware and free Zone Alarm and they havent found all this in their scans.

Thank you for your time

Ok did a scan with Malwarebytes, and found this also:

I need to know if its ok to remove these infections with MBAM. Can I delete these registry keys? Will using MBAM completely remove the infections? I thought I had the DNS changer removed with AVG, maybe its a new infection?
Help would be really appreciated .

Thank You

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up.
Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know.
If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.
If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below a staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.
After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.
Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
Information on A/V control HERE

Thank you so much for replying.!!

I did as requested and will post the DDS log and attach the other log.
I deleted all the files in MBAM quarantine using MBAM. So far running another scan with MBAM hasnt found anything new. I also installed Spyware Blaster, but I am not sure if that is an always on real time protection? Do I need to turn it on manually before I connect to the internet? I am just not sure if AVG free is enough now since all that I had found with the MBAM scan.

Thank you again for your help.

Please remove uTorrent and any P2P programs.
The nature of such software and the high incidence of malware in files downloaded with them is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state.
That includes uTorrent, and similar programs. There is a list here: http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesfor...php?topic=110.0

Please run MBAM again and post the log from that scan along with a fresh HijackThis log. Thanks.

Ok, removed Utorrent and removed Limewire. I believe that was all P2P programs on here. Here are the fresh logs of MBAM and HJT.

Thank you

Your logs are not showing active infection. Are you seeing any symptoms? If so, please let me know exactly what type of problems you are seeing. I do not want to run more powerful tools if they are not necessary. Thanks.

At the time of the first post there were definately infections and I thought there could also be some questionable things in the HJT log. AS being the first time I have ever used MBAM or HJT and not knowing how deep these infections could run , wasnt too sure if MBAM would remove all of the infections. As I am not a professional on these things I was just wanting to make sure there wasnt anything else hiding somehwere that I couldnt see. At this time I am not having any symptoms.

So it looks like my computer got a clean bill of health(if you dont see anything else in the logs) and I thank you very much for your help.

That's good news.
After something like this it is a good idea to purge the Restore Points and start fresh.
If everything is running well, let's purge System Restore.
To flush the XP System Restore Points:
(Using XP, you must be logged in as Administrator to do this.)
Go to Start>Run and type msconfig.
Press enter.
When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings Link on the left.
Check the box labeled Turn Off System Restore.

Reboot. Go back in and turn System Restore ON. A new Restore Point will be created.

Here is my standard list of simple steps that you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.

If you have installed Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware as part of your cleaning procedures, keep it updated and use it to scan every so often for malware, or upgrade to the paid version for realtime scanning and auto updating.

You may have already taken some of the following steps, and depending on your current security, you may not need to implement all of these:

1. Visit Windows Update
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.

2. You might consider installing SpywareBlaster
Tutorial HERE
Periodically check for updates.

3. Please use a firewall and realtime anti-virus. Keep your antivirus software and firewall software up to date.
Zone Labs has a free version of their firewall for home users: Zone Alarm Free Version or Alternate Link

4. You might consider installing Mozilla Firefox

5. Do not use file sharing. Even the safest P2P file sharing programs that do not contain bundled spyware, still expose you to risks because of the very nature of the P2P file sharing process. By default, most P2P file sharing programs are configured to automatically launch at startup. They are also configured to allow other P2P users on the same network open access to a shared directory on your computer. The reason for this is simple. File sharing relies on its members giving and gaining unfettered access to computers across the P2P network. However, this practice can make you vulnerable to data and identity theft. Even if you change those risky default settings to a safer configuration, the act of downloading files from an anonymous source greatly increases your exposure to infection. That is because the files you are downloading may actually contain a disguised threat. Many very malicious worms and trojans, such as the Storm Worm, target and spread across P2P files sharing networks because of their known vulnerabilities.

6. Before using or purchasing any Spyware/Malware protection/removal program, always check these links: Rogue/Suspect Spyware List
Rogue Applications List
It will save you a lot of grief, as well as money if you are thinking of purchasing.
* If you want to know just how effective your anti-spyware program is, or how well any of the "rogue" programs listed at the above links work, check HERE for an independent comparison of several anti-spyware programs.

7. If you have not already done so, you might want to install CCleaner and run it in each user's profile.
** Uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar.

8. Here are some helpful articles:
“How did I get infected?”
HERE

“I'm not pulling your leg, honest”
by Sandi Hardmeier
HERE

Let us know if we have not resolved your problem. Otherwise, you are good to go.
Happy and Safe Surfing!

Ok, seems things are running fine for now. I stopped/started System Restore like instructed.

I'll start with the windows updates. I have had a problem with SP3, you can read my post here about my problem:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/186918/blank-device-manager-after-installinguninstalling-sp3pulling-my-hair-out/
I have not tried the fix by Budapest yet, as I was having trouble with infections.

I do have Spyware Blaster installed. I update frequently. Just one question about this program though. Does it automatically start up its protection when the computer starts up? I dont see it in my start up list, unless I am missing it somewhere. Or do I have to manually turn it on?

I am using AVG 8 FREE, and also Zone Alarm FREE.

I also have SuperAntiSpyware FREE and obviously MBAM FREE.

CCleaner also installed and updated. I use it quite frequently.

Thank you for your time.

Excellent!
You do not have to turn SpywareBlaster on.

there is no running process - and no CPU and memory usage either. All you have to do is remember to update SpywareBlaster once a week, and enable the latest protection.
