Hi,

I'm remotely trying to fix my aunt's XP media edition computer - I'm only over there once every two weeks, so a slow process.

She has a link hijacker that redirects about everything, often to findstuff, but to other places as well. Not just in browsers, but in applications that make internet calls as well (such as avg updates)

Unfortunately I can't access beeping computer from her place, everything either reroutes to one of the lame sites, or to 127.0.0.0 (localhost). It also killed her avg updates (they start and then redirect) and it looks like any site that helps deal with anti-spyware redirects to 127.0.0.0.

I had a look at the hosts file and it is clean.

I have a hijackthis log but not the other prerequisite log (Run Random's System Information Tool) - I will post that in the appropriate forum, with the expectation that I may need to provide more information later.

I'm downloading a bundle of the utilities recommended in similar posts here as she cannot download them there.

Appreciate the efforts,

KDT
