Hi
I have winlogon.exe cpu at a constant 15 to 30% cpu usage and crss.exe at a constant 5 to 12%. this has happened only recently and I have checked for viruses with avg and find nothing. I have used a spyware and registry cleaner and it has made no difference.
Could you please help.

Try this free program: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysintern...ssExplorer.mspx

Once it's installed, right click on the winlogon.exe and the csrss.exe processes and select Properties.
Then click on the Threads tab.

Do you see any heightened activity in the Cycles Delta column? What file names are shown in the Threads tab (everything before the ! in the Start Address column)

Thank you for replying.
I installed the program as you suggested and did as you asked, but am unsure as to the information you require back.
Cycles Delta column is changing all the time for 1 line for the winlogon.exe and 6 lines inn the csrss.exe .

To the right of the Cycles Delta column is a column titled Start Address

The files there are all named (it's everything before the !) - please let us know the names of the files that are listed there

For example: winsrv.dll!NotificationThread is the file named winsrv.dll
