Hello,

I am new to the community and come with a quite challenging problem.

My pc runs Windows XP Home edition, with AVG antivirus and Sygane personal firewall free edition.

I experience like a backdoor behaviour: when I am not active on the pc, it suddenly launches applications. It launches Windows search and even trigger some search. Tonight, back from the movie theater I saw the result of a search "fi" containing "feef" ("fi" are teh first two letters of my lastname, no clue what feef is)

I have already taken a lot of action steps to try to remove this strange behaviour.
I followed advices on Wildersecurity and Vitalsecurity; You can see the respective posts:
-http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=75940&highlight=laowai
-http://makephpbb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=2406&mforum=vitalsecurity#2406

In a nutshell, I have run the following antivirus, trojan remover and actions:
* unactivated windows restore
* Trojan remover
* Ade-aware
* Kapersky trial edition
* Stinger (standalone anti-virus scanner from McAfee)
* sysclean ( the trend micro package)
* Spybot
* CWShredderVX2 Cleaner
* Ewido
* Online virus check (trend micro)
* CWShredder
* NOD32 trial version
* Avast cleaner
* changed firewall from Zonealarm to Sygate
* TDS-3 trojan remover
* fixed entries in HJT recommended
* unactivated type32.exe from msconfig
* unactivated all antivirus and firewall except AVG and Sygate

Can you recommend any other action ? Any idea what that can be ?

Thank you for any help you can give me. I am really desesperate now.

Hello laowai and welcome to the BC forums. We need a complete HijackThis (HJT) log file to be able to analyze what is happening on your computer. If you do not have a copy of HijackThis or do not have the latest version (1.99.1) then download it from here: HijackThis_sfx.exe
Double-click on the file you just downloaded and click on the UnZip button to install the program. It will be installed to the C:\Program Files\HijackThis\ folder by default.

Reboot normally and start HijackThis and click the Do a system scan and save a log button to perform a scan and create a log file. When the scan is complete, Notepad will open up with the log file in it. While in Notepad, press Ctrl-A to select all text and then Ctrl-C to copy the text to the clipboard.

POST the log in this thread using the Add Reply button. Click in the data-entry window and press Ctrl-V to paste the log into the window. Add any other comments which you believe might be helpful in our analysis. and click the Add Reply button.

I will review your log when it comes in.

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL I CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Hi laowai. the HijackThis log doesn't show anything out of the ordinary. It is clean.

Let's look for some other things.

Start HijackThis and follow these steps:
  • Click on Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Check the checkbox for List minor sections (full)
  • Check the checkbox for List empty sections (complete)
  • Click on the Generate StartupList Log button
  • Click the Yes button to create the list
Post the contents of the Notepad document back here and I will review it.

Cheers.
