Beeping on start-up & ;;;;;;;;;;;; semicolon repeating endlessly

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 6400,it's been going ok for a while but now, as my subject suggests it beeps repeatedly on start-up and once up and running if there is a typing window open the semicolon repeats out of control. Pressing ESC helps, but I need a fix, can anyone help me?

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
