when i click windows updates, it goes to the home page. it redirects to a lot of places and freezes up a lot. i have about 70 restore points but it will not restore to any of them. it has a red circle with a white x in the bottom task bar that says phishing filter cannot check this web site because the microsoft on line service is temporarily unavailable.the trend micro internet security center says protection out of date. it has a fix it button but it won`t work. when my sister gave me the computer it had windows xp home edition with norton anti virus on it. my daughter took it to work and had windows xp professional 5.1.2600 service pack 3 installed on it.with trend micro internet security, she brought a disk back with the trend micro security updates on it. i don`t know anything at all about computers, do i need to clean up this system or can i do a recovery and start all over.there is nothing on it i need to save.what do i have to do?thank you for any help and advice.

Hi car 54, and welcome to BleepingComputer.

Do you have the computer set up for automatic updates from Microsoft?

Are you using both the Trend Micro and Norton at the same time?

Have you tried to update the Trend Micro? There should be a button at the bottom that read Update now.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

hello dc3 yes automatic updates is on. i only have trend micro, when i click update now it says an error prevented your security software from connecting with the internet. make sure your internet conection works before trying again.it says its connected. there`s a pop up on the trend micro logo that says trend micro internet security needs your help to fix a problem.it doesn`t say what the problem is or what to do.

Did you install the updates that your daughter had on the CD?

Is there a yellow exclamation mark in the Trend Micro icon down by the clock?
