Hi,

I havenít seen anyone with this specific problem, but apologies if I have missed this.

I believe my laptop has been infected with the ‚ÄúVirus Remover 2008‚ÄĚ virus. Iíve read allot over the last few hours about running anti-virus software, Malwarebyte or manually deleting files, but what I cannot find is my specific problem amongst all the forumís.

Every time I start the laptop up, I login, get to the desktop, the icons load on screen, they load in the bottom right bar. This is when I get a blue screen, then white lines (looks like barcodes), then the laptop restarts again. There is no time to run any anti-virus software or enter any of the menus (it happens about 10 secs after the last icon is loaded). Iím going round in circles with this one.

Can anyone help with this problem? Much appreciated if you can.

Laptop: Dell Inspirion 1501 with Vista.

Cheers

Can you get into Safemode? Reboot the computer and after the initial screen, start tapping the F8 key

If Virus Remover 2008 is in Programs and Features, see if it will uninstall. You will then need to get a copy of Hijackthis from TrendMicro.
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/th.../hijackthis.php

Right click on it and choose "Run as Administrator". Click 'Do a System Scan and Save logfile'.
The HJT log will open in notepad.

Copy and paste the contents of the HJT log into a NEW TOPIC in "HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal"

Do not post the log in this topic.
