I was a dumb dumb and clicked okay to download a file to my system when the publisher was unknown (followed a questionable link from email).
That lead me to search and download both Spyware Detector and Stopzilla -- which I THINK I have now eradicated from my system (duped at least a second time by what looked like a legit program, at least in the case of Spyware Detector)
Finally I downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy. Between using it and manually deleting the Spyware folder and contents, most of my problems seem to now be fixed (at least the system has been cleared of a lot of malware and is running better).
BUT, internet explorer in particular is doing wild and interesting things. Everytime I try to run a search from Google and then click on the results, instead of going to the site I've selected I wind up all over heck's half acre. Interestingly, I've wound up at sites advertising either Spyware and/or Stopzilla. Coincidince? I think not!!!
So I'm now turning to you kind folks in hopes that if I upload a HJT log here you can help me magically fix my problems and get my husband to stop having a canary over what he thinks I've done to the computer.
(who now feels like such a newbie)
